It's 8pm and I get a text message from my friend saying, that they are waiting outside for me. I grab my phone and a jacket and go downstairs.
"Where you going?" My mom asks.
"To some event, with my friends." I say, opening the front door.
"Okay, don't come back too late and be careful."
I walk out and see all my friends in the car, they wave at me as Laniey and Trihn are singing along to Firework by Katy Perry for some odd reason.
"Okay, what's happening and where we going?" I ask, as I get in the car.
"We are singing along to the song." Trihn says. "Ask why."
"Why?" I ask.
"Because we're going to the park to see some fireworks... get it?" Trihn says, while laughing too hard at her own "joke."
"Trihn, no. You gotta get better at this by now." Danny says, shaking his head.
"Whatever, okay let's go Luke." Trihn says.
We start driving to the park, the whole car ride we're just bringing up old memories in the past and laugh at each other's embarassing moments. We finally get there and find a spot to put the blankets and lay down.
I go back to the car to bring the drinks and once I come back Trihn has my blanket.
"Hey, there's space over here." Danny says as he scoots over.
"Thanks." I say laying next to him.
"Glad you're feeling better now." He says, looking at me.
"Yeah, me too." I say. "Did you get new glasses?"
"Ohh yeah, I got them today."
"They look nice on you."
"Aha, thanks." He says, smiling.
"Rino! You're here." I hear Laniey say, as she gets up and gives him a hug. "Guys I invited Rino, since he's part of the group after all."
Rino stares at Danny and me, then goes sits with Laniey.
I sit up and lean towards Danny as I see his eyes grow wide.
"Sorry, just getting a water bottle." I say, as I catch Rino staring at me.
"Mitsuki I'm-" Danny says.
"Look they started." I say pointing to the sky, and lay back down.
I stare up at the fireworks, surprised how close we are to them. I haven't seen fireworks since I was about 13 and I don't remember them much anymore. Everything is so bright and full of color and I can't help, but to smile at the scenery around me. Everything seems like it should be, and everyone around me has a smile across their face as well.
An hour passes and we're all just sitting eating some sandwiches Luke's mom had made for us. After I finish mine Laniey grabs me and pulls me aside from the group.
"So you gonna talk to Rino?" She asks.
"About?"
"The other night."
"Don't have anything to say about that." I say, putting my hands in my pockets from my jacket.
"Uh, yes you do. You can't just ignore him the rest of the year. You like him, so freaking tell him that."
"No, I don't like-"
"Okay, so imagine hearing that he's in a relationship, how would that make you feel?" She asks, looking right at me. I don't say anything, but it seems like she already knows my answer to it.
"Rino, Mitsuki wants to talk to you!" She yells out.
"Wait right now?"
"When else?" She asks, walking away, as I sit down on the grass.
"You want to talk?" Rino asks, sitting next to me. "Before you say anything, I want to say sorry about what happened. I don't want you to feel like I'm like taking advantage of you."
"You don't need to apologize, but I do have something to tell you, while I have the guts to say it right now." I say nervously.
"Go ahead." He says, with all his attention to me...
