Leila POV
I groaned as the irritating buzzing sound continued. The buzzing that belong to my on call cell phone. I sighed as I reached over to answer it on speaker.
"Yes?"
"I know your off work now Dr. Valentine but we need all hands on deck here.", the voice belonging to my childhood friend Kim Seokjin.
"Why what's going on?", I asked rubbing my eyes.
"People coming in left and right with the same damn symptoms. High fever, chills, coughing up blood and mucus.", he explained and I shook my head.
"It's probably just some flu going around. We had a few patients with it last week.", I told him and he sighed.
"They're also coming in with bite wounds. From people.", he said and I sat up.
"Like just simple bite marks?", I asked as I slipped on my coat.
"No. These people have had full blown chucks of flesh ripped from their bodies."
"I'm on my way.", I said locking my house door. I got in my car and drove down the street, scanning the area for anyone showing symptoms. I notice two people practicing martial arts outside and pulled beside them.
"Yah, you two should go inside. There's a really bad bug going around and you don't want to catch it.", I said and the girl scoffed.
"Will this bug kill me?", she asked.
"Yeah it will.", I replied pulling off. I could see the guy pull her inside as I turned to go to the hospital. I parked in the space reserves for doctors and dashed inside just in time to see someone being rolled in with a gaping hole in his neck. The lobby was filled with chaos.
"Seokjin, what the hell is going on?", I asked and he ran a hand through his hair. His coat was bloody and he had a stain on his cheek.
"Dr. Kim please report to surgery.", a voice spoke over the intercom.
"Come with me.", he said and I followed him down the hall. He pushed open the door to reveal a woman in her mid 30's panicking on the table.
"Hold her down. We have to sedate her!", I ordered but the woman quickly grabbed the scalpel off the nearby table. She backed herself into a corner holding the blade up with a shaky hand.
"It's alright, we just want to help you.", Dr. Kim soothed.
"No. It'll never be alright.", she cried and I frowned.
"What do you mean?", I asked.
"I've seen what happens to you when you get bit. You turn into one of those creatures. Those things that's killing everyone.", she sobbed and I held up my hands.
"She's delirious."
"What things honey.", I said softly.
"The undead.", she replied with bloodshot eyes. She twitched a few times before yelling out in pain.
"It's already started. It's over for me but you all can still stay safe.", she cried before slitting her own throat. Kim and I rushed to her side trying to stop the excess bleeding.
The life faded from her eyes and Dr. Kim grabbed my wrists. "There's nothing we can so now. She's gone."
I bit my lip as Dr. Kim and the other doctor covered her corpse with a sheet.
"The hell was that?", I questioned as I moved to wash my hands. The water stained red, draining down the sink before I took a deep breath.
"She's the 24th patient to come here with that type of wound. What's going on out there?", Dr. Woo asked and I shook my head.
"I don't know but whatever it is, it isn't good.", I replied walking out the room.
When I got to the main lobby there was a small crowd circling a man convulsing on the time floor. His eyes wide and his mouth hanging open.
"Jin! I need a syringe of adrenaline! Everyone move!", I shouted getting to the floor. I held his arms while Dr. Kim injected the adrenalineinto the man's veins. He stopped moving so I moved to check his pulse.
"His heartbeat is weak, get him to ICU.", I ordered and the man was rushed down the corridor. I checked my pockets for my cell phone and remembered I left it in the surgery room. I made my way down the hall and walled into the room with the woman's corpse. I stuffed my phone in my pocket before turning to leave. My body froze and my heart started to race. The woman who committed suicide right in front of me is standing up. The sheet feels from her face revealing blood red eyes with yellow irises. A small group emitted from her open throat before she lunged at me. I quickly dodged, letting her hit the floor. She snapped her head in my direction before getting up to charge at me a second time.
I grabbed a surgery tray before smacking her across the face with it. She fell to the floor, lying motionless as I let our a shaky breath.
"Dr. Valentine! Are you alright?", Dr. Han questioned as he rushed into the room. His eyes fell on the woman before he rushed to my side.
"You alright?!", he asked and I nodded.
"Dr. Valentine we have to leave the hospital now!", he shouted, pulling me to my feet. He led me out the surgery room and into the hallway where multiple patients were attacking the staff. I heard a low growl before Dr. Han was grabbed and yanked to the floor.
"Run! Get out of here!", I dashed past the pair and out the emergency door. Little did I know it would send me into a warzone.
