[Sad]
“You ready?” Harry bent down to ask Darcy.
He walked over to me “I can’t wait to see Darcy walk into that classroom, being the most beautiful 5 year old in the world, and I’ll be standing there, the proudest daddy in the world.”
We heard Darcy jumping up and down, saying “Lets go, lets go! I’m so excited for my first day of kindergarden!”
He gave me a quick kiss and he scooped Darcy up, carrying her out the door. I watched them drive away as I continued upstairs, getting ready for Harry & I’s lunch date for after he got home.
I stood in my closet, picking out a black blouse and a pair of jeans. As I did the last button up on my shirt the phone rang.
“Hello?” I was alarmed by the sound of a unfamiliar voice.
“I’m afraid your husband and your daughter and been in an accident. Their on their way to the hospital right now.” The phone dropped from my hand as I ran out the door, hearing the faint voice of the police officer “Ma’m? Are you okay?”
I was shaking. This wasn’t real, it couldn’t be. I felt completly numb.
As I arrived at the hospital I immediately saw 2 stretchers being rolled down the hall. I ran up to them following, and screaming, trying to figure out what happened.
“Please, tell me what happened, tell me their going to be okay, please. I can't lose them, I can't”
He looked down at the smaller stretcher, that I knew Darcy was on.
“I’m sorry ma’m. A semi truck lost control of the wheel and flipped over onto your husbands car. ”
My heart dropped in the pit of my stomach as they rolled Darcy into a different room than Harry.
“Wa-it, why is she going into a different room” I looked at him, hoping for good news.
“I’m sorry, it was too late, her kidney’s failed on us on the way here.” I paused, dropping to the floor, I couldn’t breathe.
They took my arm, leading me into Harry’s room.
He was laying there, he looked so broken, like there was nothing keeping him going.
He tilted his head towards me, and he tried to get any sound out, but nothing. He whispered to me, clutching onto my hand
“Please, tell Darcy I’ll always be proud of her, even if i’m not there with her”
The tears were streaming down my face as I tried to tell him “And for you, I need you to know there has never been anyone else in my life that has made me happier than you. But I have to go now, I promise that I’ll see you soon.”
I looked into his eyes as his slowly closed, the grip of his hand on mine getting weaker and weaker untill the IV flatlined. “Time of death, 1:22 pm”
I rested my head into his shoulder, praying that I would wake up, and this would all be a horrible nightmare.
”I’m so sorry, there was nothing we could do. We can give you some alone time now, if you’d like”
I nodded, trying harder and harder to breathe. I started to whisper to Harry like he could hear me
“I’m going to be with you as soon as I can, I don’t care what I have to do. I’ll be with you, no matter where you are. I promise.”
I got up from the chair and walked to the cabinet of the hospital room.
I took the jar filled with the most pills and threw them back, washing them down with water from the sink. I stumbled back onto the hospital bed with Harry, holding his cold and pale hands.
My body grew weaker and weaker, as my breaths got shorter and quiter. “I promise, Harry.”
