It was about six o'clock the next day, very different in appearance from the day prior. Sunlight glazed the streets and flooded the windows of small apartments. The sky was a brilliant blue and clouds were very sparse, but there were still enough to make out interesting and crazy shapes. A new man of interest strutted down the sidewalk, passing all the small shops plastered on the sides of the streets. He wore blue jeans, falling short of his ankles, a black v-neck shirt and very neat tennis shoes. His curly, brown hair was pulled tight into a ponytail, bouncing behind him. On his right shoulder he carried a satchel that had a small button clipped to it reading, "I love turtles!" But in place of the word "love" there was an actual turtle. He looked very put together, but anyone who knew this man thought otherwise. His story is one you're gonna want some popcorn for...
Oh, god I hated college. I'm so glad I dropped out today. I mean, I pretty much know all there is to know right? My friends, Hercules and Lafayette, didn't even go to college and they seem to be going down a great path. I continued walking down the sidewalk. I soon came by a bakery that looked very nice. Wait- is that a man? Oh my gosh there's a homeless man sitting outside of a bakery? I guess I'm going to give him something, he looks really nice. I walked up to him with a smile on my face. "Oh, Hi! Here's fifty dollars, I hope it helps." I said, handing him the fifty dollar bill. He looked up at me with the brightest twinkle in his eyes. "Oh, sir, I can't thank you enough...thank you so much." The man said, standing up and giving me a hug. At first I was a little shocked, but then I hugged back knowing that this guy probably needed it. "It's no problem, really." I said to him, breaking the hug. Suddenly a woman came out of the bakery and smiled at the man. "Good news, Alex?" She asked. Alex. That's a nice name. "This kind man just gave me fifty bucks!" Alex said, smiling brightly. "Oh, umm, what is your name?" He turned to me and asked. "John." I said with a smile. "Well, John, you are the kindest person I've ever met in my life. Thank you so much." Alex said. The woman turned and walked back into the bakery leaving me and Alex alone. He looked really beaten down. His clothes dirty and torn and his hair a mess. I felt terrible. "Well, I have to get going. I hope everything goes well!" I said, waving and walking off. Alex waved behind me and I smiled. I really do hope he's okay...he's so nice. I walked to my apartment and unlocked the door. Closing it behind me, I went and sat on the couch and started thinking. Alex. He looked to be about a year or two younger than me, maybe twenty two? I don't know. I just can't stop thinking about him. Maybe I'll visit him tomorrow. I smiled and turned on the tv to watch a documentary about turtles. I love turtles.
Sometimes people say things happen for a reason. In my life I would say that's true, yes. Maybe John was Supposed to meet Alex. Maybe it was fate, but no one knew at the time. Alex sat still on the pavement watching the people go by. Around eight he picked up his things and made his way back home. It might not be home to you, but to Alex, that shack was all he had, and he wouldn't abandon it for anything.
I set my can down and put my sign on the ground. Pouring out the change from today, I smiled. Fifty one dollars and twelve cents. I couldn't believe my eyes. That man, John, was so nice. He was so...well he was good looking, that's for sure. But he would never like a rundown scamp like me. I laughed at myself. I couldn't get my mind off of John. His brown curls, his kind eyes, and especially his freckles. Oh, the freckles. They were like stars, lighting up my world. Jeez, that sounds cheesy. He really is the kindest person I've met, besides Eliza of course, but I'm not interested in her. At least not right now. I used to be into girls but well, I think that all changed today. Actually, that's not true...I just never wanted to admit that to myself. I can't think about it...the flashbacks...oh god...
I sat down on the ground and pulled my towel over me. It was starting to get in the colder seasons and I was not prepared at all...I don't know what I'm gonna do when winter hits in about a week. Oh well. I laid my head down and tried to fall asleep, my mind being distracted by stars. The brightest stars in the entire universe, lighting up everything around me.Alex laid in his rotting place he called home, and John laid in his soft mattress in a large, quiet apartment. The two lived very different lives, but still had a lot in common, they just had to figure that out. The two boys had their whole life ahead of them, and they both secretly wished for the other to be a part of it. Usually, I don't believe in love at first sight, but this. This was different. Yeah, it sounds like a cliche story where the poor falls in love with the rich, but this story was entirely unexpected.
As night fell and the terrors came out, angels flooded the streets. Most people were having wonderful dreams, as long as they had angels. The ones living with terrors had nightmares, and terrible ones at that. Alex, the homeless man you would think would have terrors, had angels. There might be only one starry faced angel for him, but there was an angel. John, the intelligent and well rounded man you think would have thousands of angels, only had one. A scruffy looking angel, but an angel nonetheless. And of course, they both had terrors. Some they would never speak of, and others that are spoken through the language of writing. We all have terrors, we just need to find our starry faced angel.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
