It had been a few weeks since Alex and John had pronounced their love to each other, and Christmas was only in a few days. Both boys were stressed over what they should get the other, and John had just made up his mind...
"I just had the best idea ever!" I told Lafayette. We were all at the coffee shop, but not Alex. He was fast asleep at the house, so I decided to just leave a note and let him rest.
"And what is that, Mon Ami?" Laf asked me. "What if I got Alex a puppy for Christmas? I mean, he just needs a companion when I have to go out to the store or ya know...is that a good idea?" I asked hesitantly. I had enough money saved up from college to get one, I just needed to decide which breed. "OH MY GOD A PUPPY YES PLEASE!!!" Hercules yelled, we all laughed. "I just don't know what breed yet. I'm thinking about a Border Collie, but I'm still debating. Thoughts?" I asked. "A Border Collie is a great idea, Mon Ami! They're one of the smartest breeds and very kind. I had one when I was little. His name was Midnight, just like his black and white fur!" Laf said, a smile growing on his face. "Awe! I'm thinking of getting a girl, but I'll let Alex name her. She's probably gonna be a golden collie. I can't wait to go get her!" I said excitedly. "Well, you only have three days, John, so get on it!" Hercules said, and then we carried out our conversation.Christmas Morning. The boys were in the living room drinking hot cocoa while watching a Christmas special on the television. They sat close to one another under a blanket for warmth. It was very early, but John decided he better go now...
I slowly pulled the blanket off of me and set my hot chocolate on the coffee table. Alex looked at me with confused eyes, but I just told him I would be right back. I went to my room and grabbed a hoodie and some jeans. I changed out of my pajamas and put on the clothes. I grabbed my backpack and put all of the papers I would need to get our soon to be puppy! I walked out into the living room and Alex looked me, he looked confused and angry at the same time. "I uh, have to go somewhere. I'll be back soon though, I promise!" I felt awful, but hopefully he would forgive me when he got his Christmas present. "John, it's Christmas! You're not supposed to leave on Christmas!!" Alex said, getting frustrated and upset. "I know, just...I'll be back, okay? I love you, Alex." I walked to the door and grabbed my keys, going out and into the snowy winter.
Alex was furious, but also very confused. He sat on the couch and debated on what he should do while John was gone, again...
I swear this is the last time that he's ever leaving me alone, or else I'll...I don't know what I'll do to be honest. I wish he wouldn't leave me alone ever again...
He could've at least told me where he was going! Plus, in this weather? There had to be three feet of snow outside, so he was probably walking...I don't want him to get sick! I sound like an overly attached girlfriend...
I went back to watching TV for a while. I was getting tired of watching snowmen sing about their hats and reindeers laughing at red noses so I picked up my favorite book, you guess it, Game of Thrones. I had just started the first book and I was already hooked. Since I watched the show first, I could imagine each character with their designated voices. The book was so detailed tha-
My thought was interrupted by the clicking of the door. Finally.
John walked in with a box, it was pink and had a few holes cut in the top. My heart started racing. I had an idea on what that was, but I didn't want to believe it. I walked over to John after setting the book down.
He placed the box on the floor and motioned for me to open it. I untied a little pink bow on the top and pulled of the lid with a gasp. "MERRY CHRISTMAS!!" John exclaimed. There was a small golden puppy in the box. She had the bluest eyes, just like a clear ocean. "Oh my gosh, she's so cute!!" I said, picking her up and holding her to my chest. "She's already trained and everything, I have food and treats in my backpack too." John explained, petting the puppy on the head. "What's her name?" I asked, looking up at John. "That's for you to decide!" He smiled. "Really?! Well, how about...Brienne?" I suggested. "From Game of Thrones? That's amazing! Why Brienne, though?" John asked curiously. "Well, she's beautiful and I've heard that collies are very loyal, just like the warrior from Tarth!" I giggled, I was so happy to have a little puppy to take care of. "I love it." John said, sitting down on the floor by me to play with Brienne. I looked up to John with appropriate puppy dog eyes. "I love you."Brienne had brought a new type of happiness into Alex's life, one he never thought he would feel before. His wish had come true: John would never leave Alex alone again, now he would have his little puppy girl to play with and be happy with.
Both of them were so excited to have a new edition to their home. They were both secretly hoping that they would soon be a family, but neither of them had made a move or even mentioned moving up in the relationship. They had kissed once, but neither of them remembered it due to the alcohol consumed before then. They were still friends, very good friends at that. There was only one thing keeping them away from a future together:
Thomas Jefferson.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Kind of a filler chapter but it's cute, right? :3
Also, here's a reference pic for Brienne (the puppy):I have a Border Collie, too, but she's black and white. Her name is Molly :)
I chose the name Brienne because border collies are very loyal, smart, and beautiful creatures, just like Brienne of Tarth! (I also chose it cause I'm obsessed with GoT)
Have a great day!
