Larkkit was atop a leaf. Although he was the oldest and biggest kitten in his litter, he was still small enough to stay afloat. Larkkit was riding this leaf through a river. It was quite bumpy and he was terrified of falling off. His little claws gripped the leaf and he let out a squeal. Larkkit had inherited the fluffy genes. Both his father and uncle carried this. None of his siblings looked like him. They were all grey and black, just like his mother. Larkkit tried to remember what happened to her, but his mind was too full of fear. The tomkit shrieked as he was tossed down a mini waterfall. His paws clutched the leaf as he plunged into frigid water.
It was very shallow and he was able to touch the bottom. He pushed off and was sent up to the surface. Larkkit gasped for air as a wave pushed him down once more. The small kitten was thrown against a rock and his world went temporarily dark. It felt like he was merely sleeping, stuck in the dreamscape. In reality, he was being carried downstream.
The sky was clear and bright when Larkkit awoke. His wet fur was plastered to his body and he was covered in purplish bruises. He blinked slowly, looking around. He lay on a sandy beach, just beside the small stream that had brought him here. Larkkit opened his jaws to meow but instead he coughed up water. He closed his eyes once more and fell asleep, listening to the sound of the water.
--------
"Oh my gosh are you okay little guy?" came a voice. Larkkit looked up to see a grey shecat standing over him. Her light green eyes seemed kind and her belly looked slightly swollen. "Huh?" She sat down beside him. "Where'd you come from? Are you okay?" She asked him softly. "Where am I?" Larkkit squealed, getting to his paws. "You're in Ravenclan territory sweetie. I'm Mintfur, a member of Ravenclan." The grey cat, now identified as Mintfur, meowed.
Larkkit nodded, confused. "I'm Larkkit, f-from MintC-Clan.." He murmured, looking up at Mintfur. "Why are you named Mintfur but not in Mintclan?" Mintfur chuckled. "Its just a name silly. Do you want to come back to RavenClan with me?" She asked the small tom. He thought for a moment before his stomach growled. "Is there food?" Larkkit asked. "Of course!" Mintfur purred. "Do I look like skin and bones to you? Prey is plentiful for Ravenclan!" She padded off into the brush. Larkkit hesitated before following.
---------
They entered the Ravenclan camp. Larkkit gazed around in awe. There were cats everywhere. It was nice and try, and tidy. He noticed the fresh kill pile and his stomach growled once more. Mintfur looked down at him. "Are you old enough to eat fresh kill?" He nodded proudly, puffing up his chest fur. "I'm four moons old!" Mintfur resisted the urge to laugh. "Alright let's get you some food, then I'll take you to meet Lizardstar."
Larkkit trotted over to the pile. Mintfur grabbed him a small mouse. He quickly devoured it, letting out a tiny burp. Mintfur giggled before nodding to the kit. "Do you want to meet the leader?" Larkkit gulped but nodded. He knew his uncle was a leader. Then he remembered his father and his littermates. 'I need to get home!' he thought but followed Mintfur to Lizardstar.
---------
"Ah Mintfur. Who is this?" A large cat asked. Larkkit assumed it was Lizardstar. Mintfur dipped her head in greeting and Larkkit decided he should as well. Instead he tripped over his front paws and smacked his face into the ground. "Ow" he muttered and got back up with a little help from Mintfur. "This is Larkkit" The shecat purred. "I found him by the river. He was all bruised up. He says he comes from a clan called Mintclan."
Lizardstar looked down at Larkkit then up at Mintfur. "You sure he's not making it up?" The great leader asked. Larkkit bounced up and down. "I'm not I swear to Starclan! I need to get home to Thrushheart and Lakekit and Copperkit and" He was interrupted by Mintfur. "I'll take care of him! He's four moons old. He'll be out of the nursery soon, and I can watch over him." She looked down at her round stomach. "Its about time I move in to the nursery anyway."
Lizardstar thought this over for a moment before nodding. "Alright. You can take care of him."Larkkit squealed in delight. He ran around for a moment, chasing his tail, then he turned to his new foster mother. "Where's the nursery around here?" Larkkit meowed. Mintfur purred. "Follow me!" She padded off towards a big den.
-----------
They entered the nursery. Larkkit jumped around, exploring . "It's so cool in here! Much better than the old nursery back in Mintclan. That one was by the dirtplace so it always smelled." He wrinkled up his nose. Mintfur lay down in one of the nests. "So when are your kits coming?" Larkkit asked curiously. The grey shecat smiled. "Three moons. How do you know about that anyway?' She replied.
"Well back in Mintclan I saw Cherrymoon and she said she was expecting Howlstar's kits so then I thought maybe I could play with them! Then she told me they wouldn't come for a while and they'd be too little to play. So I went and played with Swallowkit instead!" He chattered. Mintfur smiled as Larkkit let out a tiny yawn. "You've had a long day. Don't you think it's time for bed?" She asked him. "I-Im not s,s,s,sleepy" Larkkit murmured, laying down beside Mintfur and falling fast asleep.
