Erik had begun to stay in his study more often than he was suppose to. Gustave questioned his mother where his father was and why the 'monster' stayed with them. Christine would always be the one to go out and get things for her husband on a weekly basis so none of Paris would see her husband. Whenever guests came and asked if they could see him, she would say that he wasn't there. Ayesha would stay by Erik's study. Erik would never be allowed to take morning strolls because of his face. Instead, it would be midnight ones so no one could see him because the darkness would hide his face.
Christine knocked on his door and Erik opened it. "Is something the matter dear?" He asked. Christine saw part of his face. "Gustave and I are going out to earn some money. Do you wish to come?" She asked. Erik sighed and shook his head. "I am afraid I cannot do that. I have much to do." He said. Christine frowned. "Who is it that we are singing for?" He asked. "The church again." Christine said. Erik sighed. "First, let me find my mask." He looked around his study and found a white mask. He put it across his face and he opened the door. "Let's go." He said.
Erik stood up while Gustave tuned his violin. The crowd of people watched as the masked man and his fair maiden began to sing a heavenly song.
Not plannin' my day around the T.V set
Payin' our bills and stayin' out of debt
That's important to me
That's important to me
Openin' the windows and lettin' in air
Holdin' hands when we're saying a prayer
That's important to me
Yeah that's important to me
Havin' somebody to share my life
Erik stopped for a moment and let his wife sing. He walked over to the piano and began to play a simple melody with Gustave.
Loving my husband and bein' a wife
And the very best mother I can be
That's important to me
Erik soon began to join in with his lovely wife. Everyone was beginning to cry.
Tellin' the truth and bein' real
And feeding my family a home cooked meal
That's important to me
That's important to me
Plantin' a garden and watchin' it grow
Keepin' it country on the radio
That's important to me
Yeah that's important to me
Always havin' you to hold
Bein' beside you when we grow old
And they'll plant us 'neath that big old oak tree
That's important to me
Always havin' to you to hold
Bein' beside you when we grow old
And they'll plant us 'neath that big old oak tree
Believin' our dreams
Still bein' ourselves if we ever get there
That's important to me
That's important to me
Yeah that's important to me
Hm that's important to me
The family bowed and the crowd all rose. They began to clap and Erik smiled. But his attention was directed toward Christine. His beautiful wife whom he loved so dear. Christine looked at her husband and motioned him forward. He stood up and walked up. Erik felt nervous in front of all these strangers. Christine held her husband's hand and she smiled at him. The family walked down the aisle and headed home.
Christine was making dinner while Gustave was playing the violin. Erik was up in his study and Ayesha was sitting outside. All of a sudden, there was a knock on the door. Christine walked up to the door and standing there was Raoul. "Good evening Madame Daae." He pulled out a bouquet of yellow and orange roses from behind his back. "I wish to take you out to dinner Madame Daae." He gave a big warm smile to her and Christine looked at him a little confused. "I-I'm sorry but I have to say no." Christine began to close the door but Raoul's hand stopped it.
"Please, just one night. That's all I ask." He said. Christine looked up the stairs to her husband's study then at Raoul. "S-Sure." She said. She walked out the door and followed Raoul out into the night.
Their night was filled with splendor, dancing, and beautiful talk. Christine and Raoul were walking down the road while the moon shone above. "So however is your husband?" Raoul asked. Christine was caught off guard by his question. "Huh? Well uh, he-he's fine." Christine was nervous with talking about her husband. Ever since that day when he came home, she had decided to completely change the subject whenever it came to her husband. "So, what do you do for a living?" Christine asked. Raoul put his hands in his pockets and sighed. "I own an Opera House but sadly haven't made some opening performances. But Paris does seem to have some talent here." Raoul turned to look at Christine. He smiled at her. "I suppose you want me and my family to perform on opening night. I'll have to talk to my husband about it." Christine said. "Oh please, take as much time as you need. I am a patient man." Raoul said.
Soon they arrived home and Raoul held open the door for her. Christine giggled and before she knew it; she had kissed him on the lips. Christine and Raoul soon ended their date and went back to their normal lives. Christine saw that Gustave wasn't downstairs playing his violin. The house was eerily quiet. Christine walked up the stairs to Gustave's bedroom. She creaked his bedroom door open and saw the small boy sleeping soundly. She walked over to his bed and sat down. She kissed him on the forehead and saw him smile. She stood up and walked over to the door. She closed it quietly and headed to Erik's study.
She knocked quietly on the door. It had opened on it's own and Christine stood there. All over the floor were scattered papers. The room smelled of ink and.........alcohol? Christine stepped foot into the room to find bottles of whiskey on the floor. She was disgusted and yet horrified. Never in their marriage has Erik began to drink. "E...Erik?" Christine called out his name several times.
The last time she called it out, she heard a sigh. "Christine..." His voice sent shivers down her spine. Never in her life has she heard him call her that way. She felt hands on his hips and she felt her husband's soft touch. She slowly turned and saw his face in the darkness. Her eyes met his and all she saw was lust. "Whatever are you scared of Christine?" He asked her. His hands began to wander down his waist and Christine let out a gasp. She pushed her drunken husband away. "Erik, what happened to you?" Christine asked him. Erik walked forward and Christine backed up against a table. Erik picked up a half a bottle of whiskey and drank it down. He then threw it aside and Christine would hear the glass underneath his feet break.
Erik approached his wife and cupped his hand underneath her chin. His breathing became heavy. He pulled his wife's lips to his with force. Christine pulled back but her husband kept her lips close. Christine pulled back and she soon fell onto the floor. She soon winced in pain. Erik soon was notified of what had happened. Erik knelt down and took Christine's hand. He helped Christine up and brought her close. Erik began to sing a beautiful melody and caressed her waist. Christine began to fall asleep and Erik carried her to their bedroom.
