“Are you sure about this? You are going to get us in big trouble!” Kwangmin said worriedly as he shifts in his seat in the car, he felt uncomfortable not because of his seat but this whole escapade his twin brother has planned for them.
“Relax dude! It’s just one night; we are going to have fun in Garamound city I’ll promise you that. Besides, what are you worrying about? Our parents are way-way far in Korea; just enjoy the freedom will you?” Youngmin ruffled his brother’s dark hair and started the engine of his Black Cat Chevrolet, probably the only gift that he liked from their father.
“I’m worried about you driving and having no license! What if we get caught huh? I don’t want to go to jail, I’m only 17 and I don’t want to disappoint mom and dad if I was put behind bars!” Kwangmin complained shooting daggers at his twin by the look that he is giving him. Youngmin sighed and sank his shoulders, Kwangmin loosened up thinking that his brother had thought of the consequences if they pursue this escapade.
“You worry too much little bro” Youngmin beamed gripping the steering wheel and stepping on speed as the car purred away into the dark road, feeling the speed Kwangmin began holding on to whatever he can.
“Slow down!” the younger twin shouted, Youngmin ignoring his brother’s pleas opened the windows of the car and the cold wind swept their hairs wildly. Youngmin cheered, the bliss he is feeling right now is true freedom for him, no rules, and no boundaries, just fun. Kwangmin who is just beside him is in a panic state, shouting whenever he could when he thinks that Youngmin is about to hit something, especially a tree. He was scolding himself mentally for letting his older twin talk him into this, a week from now they are going to transfer into a new school where they have earned good scholarships. This escapade to Garamound city is suppose to be their “celebration” before school starts and now Kwangmin regrets on how he was easily persuaded by his twin, he was always the worrywart and Youngmin being the wild child. Youngmin slowed the car down seeing the fear in his brother’s face; Kwangmin’s beating heart calmed down then the twins shared a blank look for a few seconds and began laughing heartily.
“You jerk!” Kwangmin punched his twin playfully on the shoulder.
“Hey-hey! No hitting while I’m driving or we will crash!” Youngmin threatened then Kwangmin raised his hands surrendering. The car drove smoothly through the beautiful night as the road is empty and peaceful.
“I don’t want to enter West Gate High School…” Youngmin said all of a sudden while fixing his eyes on the road.
“What do you mean? It’s one of the best schools, not to mention we had a scholarship there!” Kwangmin protested to his brother’s nonsense.
“It’s a crummy school in a crummy town. I have another purpose why I want to go to Garamound; I heard they have better schools there better than West Gate! I’m going to apply for a new scholarship; you can come with me if you want, with that smart ass of yours you could get into any school you want!”
“But Youngmin…mom and dad wants us in West Gate we just can’t-“
“Yes we can! The very reason why I tried hard to get a scholarship abroad is to get away from them, I know deep inside they wanted us gone too. They may act like a couple on the outside but they are panning on a divorce, this is all dad’s fault…and to hell with his expectations I’m not going to West Gate!”
Kwangmin stared uneasily to the night sky, he couldn’t deny the fact that the love in their family had deteriorated, they might have been raised by wealthy parents but with loving ones they were not.
“I’m going with you” Kwangmin gripped his twin’s shoulder.
“I know I could count on you bro, we’re twins for life” Youngmin smiled and nodded to Kwangmin when a streak of light in the night sky caught his eye all of a sudden.
