“Crap, I’m late!” Maxim shouted as she woke up an hour after her alarm had rung, she has thirty minutes to get ready and go to school if she wants to get in time for class. She got out of her bed leaving it unfixed, taking off her pajamas and taking a quick shower then fixing herself to her satisfaction. Even though others are not pleased on how she looks like. Her bangs would cover the features of her face, and her long, thick hair would always become messy and unruly. She puts on her uniform, a white collared blouse with a plaid tie of black and gold that matches her pleated skirt. She grabbed her backpack and hurried downstairs, there was breakfast on the table left by her mom before she went to work, but she ignored it, she had no time to sit and munch.
She locked the door of her house and looked at her wrist watch; she smiled knowing that the school bus is going to pass by her street any minute now. She waited and the sight of a big, black bus cheered her up, “Maybe I’m not going to be late after all” Maxim said and waited for the bus to stop by.
“Here it comes, here it comes, and here it comes!” she whispered to herself excitedly as the bus stopped in front of her and opened its doors, she felt like salvation has come. She was about to enter when suddenly she felt a hand grab her collar pulling her back and pushed her aside. She almost choked on how forceful the person had pulled her; she turned to see who it was thinking to give a good smack in the head to the culprit, but her eyes only widened seeing the person responsible, fear shook her in an instant.
“Ljoe…”she said his name with disgust.
“Weirdo…” Ljoe replied raising an eyebrow at her, he is the captain of the basketball team in Blackstone Academy, the very school Maxim attends as well. Ljoe was popular because of his athletic skills and good looks; he had nice blonde hair and a pair of pretty brown eyes, even Maxim couldn’t deny his attractive but if only his attitude could match that up.
“Stand aside!” Ljoe commanded and entered the bus first, bumping Maxim’s shoulder as he passed her by, he didn’t even care apologizing. Maxim ignored it; it’s not the first time this has happened to her anyway, almost everybody in school treats the ‘loner’ and the ‘weirdo’ like that. When Ljoe entered she followed but the driver stopped her right away, “Sorry miss but the bus is quite full already, that lad over there took the last seat available, we can’t let you ride you anymore” with that said, Maxim had to get out of the bus, it took off with Ljoe sitting near the window smirking at her.
“Ugh! Jerk! Lousy piece of sh—“she stomped her foot and clenched her fists but managed to prevent herself from cursing out loud, she was irritated, really irritated. But what could she do? She couldn’t stand up for herself towards a guy who’s taller and not to mention stronger than her. Maxim had no choice but to take her bike from her house then she cycled her way to school, huffing and puffing but enjoying the wind hit her face with gentleness. “At least nature is kind towards me” she thought noticing that it’s a fine day and good thing it wasn’t raining or she would have gotten to school soaking wet.
She wasn’t soaked but she sure was late she parked her bike near the school gates and chained it well then hurriedly ran to her homeroom, Geography is the first subject and she knows quite well that Ms. Higgins is not fond of tardiness.
“Maximilene Greene, why are you late?” the stout woman raised her voice as she caught Maxim sneaking towards her seat.
“I…missed the bus Ms. Higgins, I’m sorry it won’t happen again!” Maxim bowed apologetically looking really sorry, she hear someone snickering at the back of the classroom, she ignored it and just wanted to sit down so that everyone’s eyes would stop focusing on her alone.
“Hmm…fine, since this is your first time being tardy, I’ll let you off with a warning. Next time you do it you’ll get detention.” Ms. Higgins pushed back her thick eyeglasses and continued writing on the board.
