Grace Halloway pushed open the door, peeling off her gloves. She had just come out of surgery, still being the senior cardiologist, but at a different hospital than she had started in. It had been ten years since the day she had been fired. Since the day that the X-rays of the double-hearted man had been burned.
"You did a great job back there, Grace. You truly earned that old nickname, huh?" Janice praised her. Janice was an old friend of Grace, who had been hired as help back in 2005.
Grace tried not to blush as she threw away the blue gloves that she had been wearing. That nickname was ancient and wasn't used around her often; amazing Grace, she had been called more than a decade back. Had it really been that long?
"I feel so old...." she murmured. Janice helped Grace take off her surgeon's coat, as it was tied in the back. She smiled at Janice and said a quick thanks. Then she set off at full pace down the hallway, with her friend trailing behind her, "Where are you off to so fast?" Janice called.
"My car. I'm on call and I've done all I can."
"What about the X-rays?"
"I don't take care of those now." She hadn't taken care of X-rays for 10 years now. She didn't want to be in trouble for losing records again. That had nearly lost Grace her current job before it had started. All because of what was falsly labelled a "double exposure."
"Why not? Isn't that in your job description?"
"Nope." she lied, walking faster as she entered the garage.
"What's wrong?"
"Nothing!" Grace kept up the lie, "Get back to work, Janice."
"But--" A call over the speaker interrupted Janice's comeback.
"Janice to the front desk. Janice to front desk." the woman called out.
"You'd better go." Grace said.
"We're going to talk about this later, okay?" Janice spoke commandingly.
"Sure." Grace rolled her eyes. Nope. She wasn't going to tell Janice the reason why. She hadn't even told her boss the entire truth! Only children believe that crap.
Grace waited for a moment by her unlocked car. She only got into the driver's seat when she heard the door slam. She inserted the keys in their slot in the car and started driving.

Doctor Halloway opened the door to her house with exhaustion. That surgery had been a bit challenging with unpredicted complications--when did complications ever get foreseen, anyways? She sat exhausted on her dark blue couch. The left side was completely worn out, but the right looked almost brand new. She often fell asleep on this couch, watching the news. Not that there was much on. Just more shootings, more death. She tore off her coat and threw it onto the back of the couch.
She flipped on the TV, but not before she heard a grinding noise. Not just any grinding noise.... a familiar one. It took her a minute or two to place it, but when she figured it out, she rushed out of her house. The Police Box that she had expected to be there wasn't. However she did find a woman stepping out of a brand new silver 2010 Jaguar XJ. What the heck was going on?
She walked down the front steps in confusion. She pushed back a slightly graying hair as she tried to see through the windows. A woman was coming out of the car--no, it almost looked like she had walked through the car somehow! She wasn't in the process of standing, she had stood! What was this craziness? Grace stood frozen, staring at the car.
