Jade
Half past five, I kicked the thick duvet off my body and rolled out of bed. I tip-toed to the bathroom, tried my best to stay silent so the girls wouldn't wake up. They'd bite my head off if I woke them 5:30 in the morning.

In the bathroom, I brushed my teeth, flossed, did my business, and changed from my Princess Jasmine pyjamas to a white off-shoulder-blouse and blue jeans. I took a look in the mirror, decided I looked decent for a casual day out, and walked out of the bathroom.

Early morning walks were something I valued deeply. Mum and I used to go out every morning around 6 AM during the summer and just walk and talk. The mother-daughter-bond we had to each other grew stronger after each walk we went on together. Now that I didn't live in South Shields anymore, I had to go on my walks alone. But I didn't mind.

As silently as I could, I headed to the hallway. I put on my grey low tops Converse and my beloved parka. I loved my parka. More than anything. I'd wear it at any time of the year, whether it was in the middle of summer or in the beginning of winter. It kept me warm. I took it with me anywhere; the mall, gigs, interviews, restaurants, amusement parks, the airport...you name it.

When we flew to America for the first time, I brought my parka because I couldn't live without it, let alone be halfway across the globe without the one thing I valued more than I valued chocolate digestive biscuits. It was warm there, too warm, but I didn't care and wore my parka anyways. Obviously, it brought undesired attention to me. Two girls who passed us by saw me wearing it and exclaimed "Oh my God, is she wearing a parka?!"as if it was a sin to wear a jacket when it was warm outside. Perrie, Jess and Leigh nearly died of laughter. They still laugh until they can't breathe when they think about it.

I wrote them a note, saying I'm out for a walk and won't be back for a few hours, and stuck it to the door knowing Jesy would see it first. I grabbed my keys from the blue glass bowl on the bureau, then I headed out.

Like I suspected, the streets were quiet, deserted. The citizens of London were still asleep and would be for at least one more hour. I buried my hands in the pockets. An instant warmth spread throughout my body.

I decided to walk to the little café around the corner, figured I could need something to eat and drink before I begin my walk through the city. The owner never closed, she kept it open 24/7. There was always somewhere to go if you suddenly got kicked out of your house or if you just wanted to be alone for a while. I went there all the time. The owner and I were friends even. A friendship between us was inevitable. With me coming every morning for tea and a breakfast sandwich, it was written in the stars that we would develop a bond to one another. And it happened. She even liked my parka.

The café was empty by the time I arrived. Havannah, as the owner's name was, welcomed me with her signature smile. I sat down by the counter, like I usually did. I kept my parka on, refused to take it off. Havannah got me a cup of Yorkshire tea and a breakfast sandwich with cheese, cucumber, lettuce and red and yellow paprika.

"I've seen you wearing that parka every summer for the last five years" Havannah smiled.

"Do you think it's weird I'm wearing it though it's warm outside?" I asked shyly.

"Not at all" she said softly.

"Me best friends do. They say me parka should be worn on the cold days, and not on the warm" I said as I took a sip of my tea.

"Parkas are usually worn when it's cold, so I understand why they think it's weird" she chuckled.

"I love me parka so much, Havannah" I said, dead serious.

"Yeah, I know, Jade, I know."

After our short-lived conversation, Havannah began talking about a customer who started a fight with his significant other so the police had to come and put an end to it. I listened carefully to every word she said, enjoyed the story even if it wasn't a happy one.

She had to stop in the middle of the story when the door to the café opened and a customer arrived. She apologized for not finishing, then she went to the new customer. I didn't mind being left alone. I had my tea, my sandwich and last but not least; my parka. As long as I had my parka, I was never alone. Not completely.

It was half past six in the evening when I came back home. I'd been gone all day and I hadn't called the girls or texted them, so I suspected they'd be a little grumpy about that and ask me why I went radio silent on them.

"Well, well, well, look who found her way home."

Perrie stood in the hallway, with her arms crossed across her chest and a dissatisfied expression on her face. Leigh-Anne and Jesy arrived in an instant. They stood beside her, both not looking very pleased with my absence.

"You could've picked up your phone when we called" Perrie said.

"I'm sorry, I didn't hear it ring" I said shyly.

"Didn't hear it ring? That's a shitty excuse, Jade" Leigh said harshly.

"You could've sent us a text or something, so we would've known you were okay" Jesy said softly.

"I didn't think that far. I disconnected from everything."

Their faces softened. They didn't look as terrifying as they did a few minutes ago. I sighed. I didn't want them to be mad at me.

"Why don't you take off your parka and come inside? We've cooked dinner for you" Perrie said warmly.

"You have? That's very sweet of you, guys" I smiled.

"Actually, we cooked dinner for all of us but you weren't here by the time it was ready" Leigh said matter-of-factly.

"Well, at least you saved some food for me" I chuckled.

"Can't let you starve, eh?" Jesy smiled.

I kicked off my shoes, but kept my parka on. The flat was abnormally cold and I didn't want to catch a cold. Summer colds were the worst. Fortunately, my parka could keep me safe from any undesired colds.

After dinner, we decided to watch a movie. We agreed on watching a horror movie, we had seen mostly Disney movies and Jesy was getting incredibly sick of them, so we figured we could let her choose for once.

My parka still kept my body warm. I didn't want to take it off. Perrie tried to take it off of me but stopped when I gave her a death glare. She didn't say a word about my parka nor made another attempt to take it off. She probably didn't dare after the glare I gave her.

Nobody touches me parka!

The movie started. Before the opening credits were even over, my eyes fluttered closed. I was tired after a long day and the warm, homely atmosphere in the living room only made me more tired. I rested my head on Perrie's chest. I snuggled up to her, made myself as comfortable as possible as I used my parka as a duvet.

A few short seconds later, I drifted off to sleep. I fell asleep in a good mood. I was happy I got to spend yet another beautiful day with my parka, my one true love.
