It was..........foggy, on infection day. Definitely not normal Colorado weather. It was about a year ago, infection day, so I guess the year was 2068. It's 2069 now. Well anyway, back to the subject. It didn't feel normal that day. But it didn't seem to bother my parents, cuz they did their usual wake-me-up routine. The bus ride was boring, like usual. Nothing worth noting.

Anyway, when I got to school, I guess the high school kids also saw the eerie ness of the day. (Btw, I'm 19.) they were darting their eyes at everything that seemed to move out of a long stillness. I went up to my senior friend, Holden, and whispered. "The hell's goin on?" "Idk, but I think it might have something to do with the Nevada accident." I had no idea what he was talking about. "What 'Nevada accident'? What happened?" Holden looked quickly from side to side to scout out if there was any teachers of somethin. "Well, there was this secret experimental lab in Nevada, right? Well, they were testin some virus or something and it......got out...something broke or some shit. " He said the end of the sentence very slowly. I guess he feared for his family in there. He did move here from Nevada, after all.

As everyone started to calm a slight bit down, the principal ordered everyone to go to their home room class. We all went, and I went with Holden to our first period class, an art elective. We got in and everyone's eyes darted straight at us, like they were expecting a robot that called itself the terminator and looked like Arnold Schwarzenegger . Well, as we looked around, I saw my friend Hayley looking intently at her phone.

"Whatchaaaaaa watchin?" I said slowly. She slowly looked up, with eyes that looked strained. I leaned over to see what she was watching, and my jaw immediately unhinged from my skull and dropped.

It was zombies. A live stream of the Nevada news. It showed about 3 gray and black looking "creatures" pounding their foreheads, which were bleeding, against a metal door. It was the news station that they were trying to get into. Every minute or so, another zombie would join in on the act. The reporter lady had her mascara running, and she was crying while talking. "The infected have conquered Nevada. We don't know how many humans are still healthy, but we don't plan to check. Prepare. The infected will be moving to Utah and Colorado ne-" and then static. The live stream ended.

My face started to look like everyone else's. Surprised. Shocked. SCARED. Our school was the closest to Nevada, so It'd hit our area first. I remembered every zombie movie I've seen, and decided the school would be the worst place to stay if I wanted to stay alive. I whispered my plan to Hayley and Holden. Hayley didn't seem to be listening, but Holden slowly turned his head downwards and closed his eyes. "I-I can't do this man.......I can't do this.....I won't make it...." I could hear sniffles coming from him every-so often. In all the confusion of the class getting louder and more frightened, I wonder to myself: why the hell are the teachers still keeping us here? Do they not know what's happening? they have to. This is on every news channel in Colorado right about now.

Shit got bad in 4th period. On the window closest to my desk, there was a loud thump. The blinds were closed, so we couldn't see what it was. It stopped my biology teacher for a second. then she slowly started to talk again. She didn't even get a full minute of talking when the thump echoed across the room again, a lot harder than last time. None of the kids have calmed down, so we all reached for the closest weapon in range. I pulled out my butterfly knife, riptide,(rip for short) and clenched it in my fist in a backwards handle position. I know it's weird that I bring a knife to school, but I like to be prepared. Our teacher slowly walked over to the window, unaware we all had weapons that could get us instantly expelled. She slowly wrapped her fingers around one of the pull-strings that make the blinds go up. I clenched rip tighter.

Then, she pulled the blinds up.

All I heard, and probably everyone else heard, was the sound of a scream and glass breaking.

She was dead. A heart attack plus being bitten, there was a 10% chance she'd live. And she didn't. So.......yeah. Math bro. Anyways, the infected arrived. Apparently, our teacher timed the pulling up of the blinds perfectly with the zombie's third thump, which broke the glass and send fragments of it into our teachers face. Then, she got bitten. She immediately collapsed to the floor, and my ears were overwhelmed with screams, growls, and the sound of flesh ripping.

It was hard, but to save my class, I lunged at the infected creature.

That wasn't a good idea. Another zombie popped up from the backround, and darted at me. I got the first one in the eye, but the second one grabbed my arm. I tried to slash its wrist with rip but it was holding my arm in a position that wouldn't let me get it. It tried to bite, and I squeezed my eyes shut.

Shit bro. Never be a hero.

And then, a book soared over my head and into the jaw of the 2nd zombie.

"Zack, get OUTTA THERE!"
It was Holden. He threw our thickest class book at zombie 2. Of course he let go, but my arm was still bleeding from its strong grasp. Zombie 1 was stepping into the classroom but I cut its leg off to stop it from advancing. It slowly started to bleed out, and the zombies yellow glowing eyes dimmed, and faded. We all let out a worried, scared, sigh. I went up to examine and-

"Oh s-shit...."
"What Zack.."
"I-it's m-my-"

Parents. The word was parents.
