Being clumsy and being a mechanic wasn't any good combination. It could be considered dangerous enough to be banned. But it wasn't so now you was standing in front of the entrance to mechanics' quarter about to be assigned to one of them to teach you. You expected it to be some old, sparky man, whose attitude would irritate the shit out of you. But you were prepared to get trough that and earn the job that you had always wanted.

Taking a deep breath to calm your nerves, you brought your hand to the door, knocking a few times on the door. You couldn't stop your mind from repeating all of your knowledge all over again. You had studied so much that eventually you couldn't stop even dreaming about the wires and rocket science. You were pulled back from your thoughts with doors being opened, revealing the head mechanic Sinclair. You knew him briefly, he seemed nice.

"Welcome, Y/N," he smiled, taking a step aside so you can enter the room which you did with awkward smile on your face. "How are you feeling?"

"Nervous, I guess," you answered, shifting in place as you glanced around, listing all the possibile incidents you could cause there.

"There's no reason for it," he patted your shoulder, walking further into the room. "Raven, stop what you are doing and come here."

"What's going on?" A brunette girl showed up, coming from the back of the room with oil all over her hands and a screwdriver in her hands. You heard about her. Raven Reyes. The youngest zero-g mechanic in more than fifty years.

"This is Y/N. You are her mentor now," Sinclair revealed, leaving both of you surprised. You definitely didn't expect to get a teacher like her and she obviously didn't expect to teach anyone. If you had been nervous before, now you were more than anxious.

"What? Why? I mean, I never do that stuff. It's more your job," Raven questioned him with furrowed eyebrows. From the looks of it. She didn't seem pleased with the idea.

"It's the best time for you to start then," he smiled and turned around, leaving the room.

"So, uhm, let's get started," Raven broke the awkward silence, motioning to you to follow her.

"Dammit! Pay attention, Y/N, or you'll loose your fingers," Raven scolded you as you nearly set the device you were repairing on fire.

"Sorry," you mumbled, wiping the sweat from your forehead with the back of your palm.

The last few weeks were rough as you continued your course to become a mechanic. You weren't exactly the best material as you couldn't seem to avoid causing the accidents on daily basic. The crush you got on the girl who was teaching you, which was impossible to avoid as well since he was perfect, didn't help as well because it made you even more nervous. The mechanic didn't seem to feel the same way about you as she didn't seem a bit pleased with your presence whenever you were together. It was clear with every next day she was loosing her patience with her.

"This keeps happening all the time. I can't understand how you even applied for being a mechanic with your clumsiness," Raven harshly stated with a frustrated sigh leaving her lips.

"Maybe you are right. Maybe I should never apply for this job. I was fool for thinking I can handle it," you abruptly stood up, nearly kicking off the stool you had been sitting on.

"Wait, Y/N, where are you going?" Raven stopped you, grabbing your forearm, but you harshly shrugged her off.

"I am done here. I'll find some job even someone so impossible as me can do," you shot at her and turned around, leaving the room and planning on never going back there.

You were on the Earth for some time already and it was amazing experience despite all the things that happened. You manage to avoid causing so much accidents and given the circumstances you were doing great. You had given up on your dream of becoming a mechanic and rather settled with planting and taking care of crops. As any other day you were making your way towards your room, exhausted from the work. You didn't pay much attention to your surroundings so you didn't notice a person in your path until you bumped into them.

"I am so sorry," you immediately apologized even before lifting your gaze to the person. However, as you did so, you immediately recognized the person. "Raven."

"Y/N?" She looked at you, surprised to see you. And if you didn't know better, you would thought that you didn't just imagined it when her eyes seemed to lit up. "How- how are you?"

"Good, I guess," you shrugged, suddenly overwhelmed as all the feelings you had for her came back at the sight of her. "I finally found the right job for me. You?"

"Pretty great," she smiled. "It's really nice to see you."

"Yeah, it's really nice to see you as well," you returned the smile as the awkward silence surrounded you since neither of you knew what to say.

"Maybe you should pay a visit to the mechanics' quarter sometimes. We are low on mechanics right now so we could use your help," she  offered, taking you aback by her offer. You definitely didn't expect that.

"No, I think you made it clear I am not fit for that job," you shook your head.

"C'mon, I didn't mean that, Y/N. You were doing great, I was just treating you awfully and I don't even know why. I started missing you immediately but for some reason I never came to you to apologize. I am sorry," she finished her speech, leaving you with wide eyes.

"It's fine, Raven. But you were right, as much as I would try I could never get rid of my clumsiness," you shot her polite smile.

"I would never ask you to change. I-I loved that clumsiness even though I never realized it," she confessed, her cheeks heating up a little. "I know you could be amazing mechanic the way you are."

"I think I can give it another shot then," you finally gave in as the urge to try it again was stronger.

"Great, amazing, I can't wait to spend more time with you again, to get you know even better," her whole face was filled with joy. She seemed genuinely happy with seeing you again. You couldn't help but start to wonder if maybe as the time would pass your feelings would be returned.
