The airport was loud with movement, but all Natalie could hear was Charles thanking Peter—for the fifth time.
"Peter, thank you. Truly," Charles said, shaking his hand. "Take care of yourself."
Peter smirked. "Yeah, I saw your flight plan. Why Paris?"
Charles paused, surprised. He glanced at Hank, then smiled. "Thank you, Peter." He tossed him the keys to the car. "Do me a favour. Return that for me."
Peter caught them effortlessly.
"And Peter?" Charles added with a knowing grin. "Take it slow."
Peter laughed but turned to Natalie as the others boarded. "You gonna give me your number?"
Natalie lifted her hand, showing her engagement ring with a small, teasing smile.
Peter groaned dramatically. "We could be friends?" he offered.
She rolled her eyes but chuckled. Reaching into her pocket, she pulled out a scrap of paper and scribbled down a number.
Peter handed her one back. "You call me... when you're ready."
Natalie took it, eyes twinkling. "I'll keep that in mind."
She turned and boarded the plane, giving Peter one last smile. He watched her for a moment longer before slipping behind the wheel and vanishing in a blur.

The plane was tense. Logan read quietly. Charles glared at Erik from across the aisle. Natalie flipped through a magazine but barely read a word. Her fingers occasionally brushed the ring on her hand. She couldn't stop thinking about Alex.
The silence didn't last.
"How did you lose them?" Erik asked suddenly. His voice was low, but it cut through the stillness.
"The serum I take for my spine affects my DNA," Charles answered.
"You gave up your powers to walk?" Erik asked, disbelief colouring his voice.
Natalie's shoulders stiffened. She remembered the nights spent beside Charles as he shook and screamed through the pain. She remembered offering to heal him, and how her powers had only been able to do so much.
"I gave up my powers," Charles said slowly, "so I could sleep."
Erik scoffed. "I've lost my fair share too."
"Dry your eyes, Erik. That doesn't justify what you've done."
"You have no idea what I've done," Erik said darkly.
