As soon as the nurse left, George came back into the room and sat in the chair again. He then grabbed my hand and looked at me, waiting for me to say something.
"Love, you're really pale. Is everything alright? What'd she say?" He asked quickly, and I just looked at him for a moment without responding.
"Um, she said that I'm, uh," I started, and George just cocked an eyebrow at me while I stuttered "pregnant," I finished, and he stared at me with wide eyes.
"What?! How is that even possible? We've been so careful! I-I don't understand," George said, and I squeezed his hand and gave him a weak smile. There seemed to be a lot of those going around recently.
Suddenly, silent tears fell slowly from George's eyes. It hurt my heart to see him cry.
"I'm so sorry," I said, and he began to smile. "What?" I asked, clueless as to what was so funny.
"I'm so happy," George said, and I stared at him dumbfounded. He did the exact opposite of what I did. I only looked at the fact that I hadn't planed to have a baby, he looked at the fact that he had always intended to have a family with me, just not this soon perhaps.
"So am I," I found the courage to say, and we cried happy tears together. In that moment, I thought of nothing but George and our little girl or boy.
Once we got home, I noticed that George was acting a lot more cautious with me. When I slipped in the kitchen, he ran to my side to help me up.
"Are you okay?! Are you hurt?!" He asked, and I found it cute that he was concerned, but it was also a little overbearing.
"George, sweetie, I'm fine, really. I'm okay," I assured him, and he still looked concerned. He stayed with me in the kitchen the whole time I cooked, just watching me to make sure I didn't fall. I rolled my eyes at him, but I had to admit it was pretty cute.
