At Jake’s Mountain

The next day on an early Tuesday afternoon, Skye leisurely walks alongside Everest, her best friend. They’re off to the side of the ski track chatting as they also watch skiers zip by them on their snowy way downhill.

Skye: “If I could just get to know Chase more then I'll know why he doesn't give romantic relationships a chance. But how am I supposed to do that when he barely talks about himself?! Also, why would he even tell me? I’m not special and what if he gets the wrong idea? Nearly every girl wants him so of course he’ll think I’m trying to be his girlfriend too but I’m not! And that’s another problem, what if I do find his perfect match and he rejects her like everyone else? That girl will hate me and I can’t blame her, after all, I can’t help but feel sorry for all the girls Chase rejects. Especially if it’s because they think I had something to do with it when I didn’t!” She rambles. “Like this one girl who glared at me yesterday. I could tell she wasn’t just mad… she was heartbroken.”

Everest: “Well, if she ever glares at you again, I’ll track her down and personally tell her to get over it.” She remarks with an eye roll. “And your little ‘mission’ to improve Chase’s love life is sweet and all but with these crazy fangirls around I don’t see how any of them will change his mind. Their jealousy makes them more of a problem than an asset for you.”

Skye: "I think they just um… they just like him a little bit too hard.”

In response, Everest gives Skye a look as if to say ‘Really girl? Don’t defend them’.

Everest: “All they care about is that he’s popular, mysterious, and really handsome.”

Momentarily, Skye stops walking and eagerly smiles at Everest.

Skye: “You think Chase is handsome?!”

A light blush suddenly covers half the Husky’s face as she avoids Skye’s wide eyes by strolling past her quickly.

Everest: “I- I’m just telling you what I hear other girls say!”

The energetic Cockapoo catches up to Everest.

Skye: “But do you agree with them? Please, tell me you do!"

Everest: “Oh, come on, Skye.” She smirks. “I know you’re just trying to set me and him up again.”

Skye: “That’s not a no.” She teases.

Playfully, the Husky rolls her eyes at her thrilled bestie before a huge cheesy grin spreads across her rosy face.

Everest: “I mean, even you have to agree that he’s good-looking.”

Both of them abruptly stop moving and erupt in a fit of giggles.

Skye: “I knew it! Oh my gosh, you two would be such a power couple!” She squeals. “And I… I don’t know if I agree.” She confesses.

Their laughter slowly dies down as they sit down in the snow to catch their breaths.

Everest: “What? What do you mean you don’t know?”

Skye: “Like I never really thought about it… I guess he is but…” Her mind wanders. “I always thought girls liked him because he has such a good heart and– oh, who cares what I think about him. I could never bring myself to date him.... or anyone.”
