Chapter 27
"Legolas?" Thranduil said in alarm. "What do you mean 'who are you'? I'm your Adar, Legolas!"
"Amnesia is not something to joke about, Legolas," Elrond said seriously. The poison was not supposed to make the prince lose his memories!
"I...amnesia?" Legolas said, looking up and suddenly looking incredibly innocent. "What's that?"
Thranduil paled, backing away and dropping the hold he had on Legolas's shoulder. Elladan, who was the nearest to Legolas, had to grab him as he suddenly began to fall toward the cold, hard earth.
"My son..." Thranduil murmured. Elrond grabbed his shoulders and pulled him to his feet, gently guiding him away from the group and into the trees.
"Thranduil," he said, looking at his friend's pale face in concern. "There is a chance Legolas could regain his memories. We won't know until we get the cure in Lothlorien. Maybe it will all come back to him."
"His eyes, Elrond..." Thranduil said. "He is so innocent. So pure. He has no bad memories."
He paused.
"Maybe it is better this way."
Meanwhile, Elladan, Elrohir, Gimli, Aragorn, and Glorfindel were surrounding a very confused prince, who was looking at them in awe.
"You all have lots of weapons," he commented. He stared at the bows and quivers, and the other assorted weapons that they were carrying. "Are they very dangerous?"
"Yes, Legolas. They are. You mustn't touch them unless one of us gives you permission, alright?" Glorfindel said. He felt tears coming to his eyes. Legolas was just like himself as a child.
"Okay," he said, smiling in acceptance of the rule. "What do you do with your weapons? Do you fight bad guys?"
"Yes," said Glorfindel. "Lots of them. There are lots of different types of bad guys that we fight, but we will protect you from all of them, Legolas. I promise you this."
"Hannon le!" Legolas said, beaming. "What was the worstest bad guy you ever fighted?"
"Ah, there was once a creature that I fought, called a..." Glorfindel paused. Was it really a good idea to tell Legolas about the balrog?
"Bin bag," Elladan chimed in, rather helpfully. "It was called a bin bag."
"Once," Elrohir added. "Glorfindel was walking down the stairs."
"And then, he heard a noise from behind him."
"And then he turned around, and he saw an evil bin bag at the top of the stairs!"
"It was holding so much trash in its giant bagginess that it was so heavy that it could squish Glorfindel if it caught up to him!"
"But Glorfindel did not run away! He turned to the bin bag and pointed his sword at it as it started to roll down the stairs towards him."
"He didn't want anybody else in Imaldris, that's the place where he was, to get hurt, so he was ready to sacrifice his life for those of the other residents!"
Legolas gasped, looking at Glorfindel with newfound respect and awe.
"Wow!" he said. "What happened next?"
"Well, Glorfindel turned to the evil bin bag and said 'YOU SHALL DIE TODAY, FOUL BIN-BAG!"
"So, as the bin bag approached, he sliced it into lots of little pieces!"
"But then our Ada, Lord Elrond, came in and yelled at him, because there was now trash all over the stairs!"
Legolas's tinkling laughter rang throughout the trees. He turned to the twins, who could not help but grin at the sound.
