••• the following poem is based off of an art piece in which a male student wrote a tribute letter to a deceased friend. the poignancy of this particular letter inspired me to write this response. some of it references lines from his writing.•••

dear Luis,

i want you to know that i
have always
loved you.

there are fields
of lavender
where i am,

and i am captain
of congregations
of amethyst.

i walk down
celestial
aisles.

they pick me
first,
always.

they may know my
name now,
where you are,

but Here i
am
nameless;

they know me
by my
soul.

Really,
I'm
Perfect

your day
will
come.

i leave it
at
that.
