I stopped playing the piano and listened to everyone clap. "Thank you Chloe for that selection now will you all stand as I lead us into prayer then we'll leave." I started playing the piano softly with my eyes closed listening to my father pray. When he finished I turned off the piano and grab all my stuff "you did good" I looked over my shoulder and saw my best friend. "Thank you I love your dress" she looked down at the dress and smiled "well if you ever went shopping with me you could get you one." I started laughing imagining what all my dad would say if I even tried to ask. "Maybe one day" she rolled her eyes then grabbed my hand and pulled me to my parents. "Good afternoon Mr. and Mrs. Jones" she shook my father's hand and hugged my mom. "I was wondering if Chloe could come over to my house and help me practice playing piano." I looked at my dad I already knew my mom would say yes but my dad is very strict. "Of course she can just make sure your back before curfew" my dad didn't say anything. We walked out of the church and to her car. When we got to the mall we went inside of Rue 21 and I saw the dress she was wearing. "Chloe look at this!" Brooklyn screamed she was holding up a pink velvet romper it was cute. "Now you and I both know I won't be allowed to wear this" she held it in her hand still and we walked to the dressing room. I tried on the dress it looked cute and it seemed presentable. I tried on some shirts and some jeans but only decided to get the dress. When we left the store we headed to the food court. "So there's a party tonight" I shook my head no " You know he won't say yes" I took a bite of my slice of pizza "so lie" I started choking on my pizza "Rule 1. Never lie to a preacher." She laughed "Ok don't like just say you're sleeping over at my house it's summer he'll believe it." I mean he would believe it but would he say yes. We finished eating and headed back to my house. I saw my mom in the kitchen getting started on dinner. "Where's Dad?" She turned to face me and saw that I had a clothing bag "In his study what's in the bag?" I smiled, my mom is so much different from my dad yeah she's Christian but just not as extreme as my dad she's like a best friend. "A new dress" she put down the spoon she was using and turned the stove down on low. "Okay let's go see what it looks like." We all made our way to my room and I went straight to my closet and put on the dress and stepped out in front of them and Brooklyn started clapping "You look so good!" I looked over at my mom to see what she would say "I love it, it makes you look your age" I smiled at her. "Where are you wearing it to?" I looked over at Brooklyn for help because she knew I hated lying to my parents. "There's this small party tonight that WE both got invited to and I was trying to convince Chloe to come with me." My mom just nodded her head "You know me I don't care so you can go but please just don't let your father find out." I nodded my head. She got up off my bed and started to make her way out of my room. "Promise me it'll be our secret" I nodded my head and watched as she walked out of my room closing the door behind her. "Wow I love your mom, I can't believe she said yes" I looked over at Brooklyn panicked. "What?" She asked grabbing her phone off the side table. "I can't go to a party I don't know the first thing there is to know about one." She started to play some music. "Oh my god turn that down before my dad hears it!" She turned it down a little before getting up off the bed making her way over to me. "This is the kind of music that you're going to hear tonight blasting through the house." I nodded my head as I watched her dance along to the music. "Come on dance with me" she grabbed me by my hand and I swayed side to side along with the music. "Now I know you normally aren't allowed to talk to boys but you know you're going to do that tonight right?" I nodded my head. "Okay so pretend I'm some guy that you think is like extremely attractive and you want to get my number what would you do?" I looked at her confused for a minute "hey there" she looked me up and down "What's up baby?" I shook my head no and walked away. "No you can't walk away that's how guys talk, watch me okay pretend to be a guy." She walked away then started to make her way back over to me while dancing to the beat still. "I saw you checking me out from the corner over there" I was trying to figure out what to say. "just say anything" I nodded my head "um yeah I like your dancing" she smiled then started to dance on me. Normally I would be uncomfortable with this but Brooklyn is my best friend and we've been like this forever. "What do I do now?" She stood straight up and turned to face me "Normally a guy would put his hand around your waist while you dance on him so don't freak out if it does happen." I nodded my head and she moved closer to me readjusting my dress. There was a knock on the door and I ran to my closet scared already knowing it was my dad. "Oh Brooklyn you're here, I didn't know you were joining us for dinner" I quickly changed out of my dress and back into my outfit I had on before. I walked out and my father was standing in the doorway. "Dinner is ready" I nodded my head and we watched as he walked out. "That was so close." I nodded my head turning to face Brooklyn. "Let's get down there before he comes back up" we made our way downstairs and sat down at the table with my mom and dad. "So dad I had a question" I looked up at my dad who was busy focusing on his food. "Brooklyn wants to know if I can sleepover tonight?" He looked up at me with a raised eyebrow. "Okay before you say no she just needs help babysitting I promise I'll be home early for my piano lesson." I gave him the puppy dog face. He at my mother then back at me "fine but be home early and no going out." I nodded my head taking a sip of my drink trying to hide my smile.
