"What have you been doing all day?" I turned around to see some guy leaning on the island countertop in Morgan's kitchen. " Watching movies . I think I should start watching them in here. I feel depressed when I watch them in my room." Ok, maybe not just some guy. None-the-less, I didn't like him. Morgan met him a few weeks ago, a month at the latest, at a coffee shop through some friends and it seems like she's already comfortable being alone with him. Thunder rumbled causing Morgan and Cameron both to jump.
" It's raining?"
" It wasn't when I pulled up." Morgan went over to look through her blinds taking Cameron's eyes with her. A smile began to spread across his face as he took note of her killer legs and shapely hips and his ears heat up.
Turning around to bright eyes and teeth Morgan began to smile herself. "What?"
His eyes darted to the wall. " Oh, nothing." He pointed to the canvas mounted on the middle of the wall. " I was just looking at this wonderful painting."
"Oh, come on." I say . "She's not that dumb. Anyone can tell-"
" Yeah? It took me five weeks to do that." She let out a breath.
" Who is it?"
" I don't know. I don't know... Sometimes I get flashes of this dude. I've never met him before but I feel like I know him." She laughs. " Heck, I don't even know if he's real." My ears perked up, being that I had not heard of speak of such dude. Not anything about some mysterious guy. I walk over to get a good look at this painting of hers, turn the corner, look at the wall and look smack dab at a painting of me. ME of all people. An exact replica except I was in my war form. A spitting image. My jaw dropped and I felt my pupils swell as big as a grape.
" How?" I wondered. " How in the world could she know who I am? She's not even part of our world." My mind was spinning in circles and I couldn't get myself to stay still for anything.
" Teddy calm down."
"Sarah, what do you mean calm down? The girl knows who I am. She knows how I look! My face Sarah. My face is hanging right there on her got dang wall!"
" I mean calm down as in stop panicking. First off she only knows how you look. She doesn't know anything else." No matter what she said there was no explanation for how my face was staring back at me. I couldn't believe it and even though I was trying to shake all of this out of reality I just couldn't shake my head hard enough.Sarah grabbed me by the shoulders and pushed me down onto Morgan's sofa. " Calm down. I know you're freaking out-" Amani cuts her off mimicking me.
"My face Sarah, It's hanging on her wall. Just all over the place. Wah wah blah-di-blah. Har har harg. Hey, all I'm asking is that you keep it down. Outlander is on and I can't hear Jamie."
Sarah looks over with a blank expression, all it takes to shut Amani up.
" Look at it this way."
"Ok." I take slow deep breaths, an attempt at "calming down" and listen to Sarah.
"Look at it this way. In your mind this is a painting of you. In her eyes, keep in mind that she is only human, this is just some dude from her imagination." She raised her eyebrows as the wheels in my head started to turn.
Amani sits his bowl of popcorn down and goes over to investigate the painting a little more.
"You're so busy worrying about her knowing how you look when what you need to worry about is how come you're in your war form, and...." he trailed off and from the look on his face-
"What dude?"
" Why Morgan's name is in the middle of your shoulder."
"What?" I could hear the terror in my voice and to know that I was that scared creeped me out even more.
" Her name is in your shoulder."
" And? It's a painting. It's not like she's an oracle or something." Sarah grabbed a handful of popcorn and walked over to the painting. " And Amani, you're probably talking about her signature." Amani pointed out for her. " Or not, but that doesn't mean that any of this means anything. You're freaking out over nothing and it's really starting to annoy me." Sarah runs her hands through her hair and I can't help but to think that it's lifeless silver roots and charcoal ends are only a reflection of her lifeless soul. " Well, If you feel that way then why don't you just leave! You're always so quick to brush things off, you never take the time to look into the meaning of things."
" That's because it doesn't matter. You overthink every little thing. Teddy, your job is to protect Morgan,to keep her safe, make sure no danger comes near her, all of that crap. What the heck is a painting of you going to do to endanger her? Huh? Nothing. Nothing at all." I had nothing else to say to her. Not anything regarding the painting only because I knew she wouldn't listen, and that nothing I would say would change her mind. " Bye, Sarah." She looked at me shaking her head as if she couldn't believe I wanted her to leave. I looked down and saw the translucent blue glow from my eyes shining on my watch. I didn't know I'd gotten that upset. Sarah grabbed her jacket and walked towards the door. " You'll see." she said before she closed the door.
Amani waited a few minutes for me to calm down before asking, " Dude, why are you so worried?" He looked at me with honest question in his eyes. How was I supposed to tell him that if I was away from Morgan for more than an hour I was afraid that she would be put in dire danger? How was I to tell him that at this point I wasn't protecting her from herself anymore, or car accidents, I was dealing with something way more uglier than life. The only problem is that I didn't know what. My gut churned even thinking about it. So, since I didn't know what to say, rather didn't know how ,I brushed my feeling aside and went along with Sarah's assertion. " I don't know, dude. Maybe I am overthinking this."
Amani smiled, " Yeah, but you wouldn't tell Sarah that."
" Nah, No way." We both laughed as we stood up and teleported back home.
