The first time he met her, it was raining.
The sun was shining only moments before the first drop of water splashed the ground. In a matter of seconds, rain came pouring down, catching the boy by surprise. Earlier this morning, the weatherman said nothing about it raining.
Whilst running around the neighbourhood, Kou Mabuchi scanned left and right for a safe place. However, as he turned around the corner, he accidentally knocked into something...
"A cat?"
Startled, Kou slipped back and landed in a puddle, hands scraping against the cobblestone. In response, the cat jumped back and hissed.
"Shiro, wait a moment!" A girl's voice called out, followed by the sound of footsteps.
Kou looked up from his place and saw a girl with (h/l) (h/c) hair and (e/c) eyes, school uniform wet from the rain. It took a few moments to realise who this girl was, but then he identified her as (l/n) (f/n), the girl who sits at the back of the class and rarely speaks.
Who knew she had a cat? She had never mentioned it before.
Then again, she never mentioned anything, really.
"Oh, Tanaka," she bent down to pick the cat up. When she did, Kou noticed its large belly. "Sorry about that. She ran outside just before the rain began to pour." Kou stood up from the ground. "You take the train, right? You can stay dry at the shrine there." (F/n) pointed to her left, where a shrine stood proudly: Kou could make it there with ease if he ran.
"But what about you?" He asked.
"I live pretty close so I'll be fine if I run." She answered quickly. "Mum's gonna be mad if I stay out here for too long. So I'll see you at school."
Without saying a proper goodbye, Kou watched as she dashed off in the other direction, holding the cat in her arms. Suddenly, the rain poured down even harder on him, making him focus on getting to the shrine quickly.
When he looked back, he swore he saw (f/n) take out her phone and speak to someone. He didn't bother to think about who.
Then, he found himself at the shrine, finally finding some shelter from the rain.
Before long, he saw a familiar brown-haired girl running towards the shelter too. Kou blushed when he realised who it was.
His heart raced.
"It came down pretty suddenly, huh?"
