"Oh? Another person wants to join the committee?"
Yuri smiled at the raven-haired teacher who sat in front of them, wearing a pastel yellow shirt with a drawing of a platypus printed on it. The school's most popular teacher, Yoichi Tanaka, was most certainly an adult, though his attitude and choice of clothing said otherwise.
"Yes. We brought her here just in case she had to sign a form," Yuri explained.
"And who might the 'she' be?" Yoichi asked, shuffling white test papers with red ink splattered all over them.
While they talked, (f/n)'s (e/c) eyes scoured the room, taking in the pale white walls, plain mahogany desks, swivelling black chairs, clean computers... and, most importantly, the chic coffee machine that laid in the corner. Judging its professional and shining look, (f/n) guessed that most of the budget for the teachers' room went to the coffee machine.
She blinked out of her inspection when Yuri nudged her forward.
"Um, that would be me sir," she quickly answered. "I'd like to join the committee, if that's okay."
Yoichi blinked, surprised. He recognised her as the quiet one of the class, always keeping a low profile whenever she could. Just as he was about to comment on her quietness, he held his tongue. She probably knew about her quietness already. Why bother talking about it again?
With this in mind, he gave her a sweet smile. "Oh, you are... (l/n)-san, right?"
She nodded, "Yes, Tanaka-sensei."
"Hmm... I'm a bit surprised that you'd want to join the committee, to be honest. I didn't really expect you to join. Ah, but it's a good change! I like it," he noted. "I've heard good things about you too, (l/n), so I don't see why you can't join."
"A lot of good things about me?" she questioned, "Who told you about those 'good things'?"
"Just another student. It's nothing bad, I promise! If I were to think that someone was bad, then I'd have to go and see so for myself. Anyway, before you become an official member of the school committee, I have one question for you. Is that okay?"
She had no choice but to nod.
"Okay then! The question I'd like to ask you is... well, why do you want to join the school committee?"
"Um, why?"
"Yup, why?"
"Um, well," she paused. "I... I think that it would be a great thing to do. We only go through high school once in our lives, so we might as well make the best out of it," she trailed off, frantically thinking of more to say. "I've made some more friends, as you can see, and I guess I just want to start something new. Something that I haven't done before. Plus, it would be great to help my classmates, even though I don't know half of them. And also, um..."
"She can develop her social abilities!" Yuri interfered. "Since she's just a bit quiet, we, as the school committee, can help her speak more! Maybe then, she'll put her hand up more in class-"
"-which is not guaranteed-"
"-and as her friends, we'll be there to support her along the way! Right, Shuu-chan?"
