(F/n) shuffled near the fountain, suddenly self-conscious about how she looked.
She had tried looking her best today. She didn't know why she wanted to either. It's not like she was going to make a good first impression at a job interview. So why was she so nervous?
Simply because she hadn't gone outside in public for a while.
Sure, her mother had told her to go grocery shopping sometimes, but that was a whole different matter. When grocery shopping, people didn't care about the clothes you wore. It's a grocery store, for goodness' sake!
However, when you're in the middle of a mall, in the centre of attention, you suddenly want to disappear. Especially when you're standing alone somewhere, giving off the impression that someone might've ditched you on a date!
She hoped that wasn't the case.
"Futaba... where are you?" (F/n) muttered, checking her recent text messages. She could feel the stares of judging strangers on her now...
"Oh, (l/n), you're here early." Shuuko walked up to her, dressed in a casual outfit.
"Ah yeah, I didn't want to risk being late." (F/n) tried to hide her relief of seeing someone she knew.
"It's okay, I understand."
They stood beside each other in an awkward silence. Neither wanted to engage in a conversation, afraid that it would all go amiss.
Fortunately, Yuri arrived with giddy timing.
"Shuu-chan! (L/n)-chan!" She hopped to them like a bunny. Soft and cute.
Heck, even her outfit was cute too.
"How long have you been waiting?" She asked, swaying from side to side.
"Only a few minutes. The rest should arrive soon if we three are already here."
"Make that four!" Futaba came from the opposite direction Yuri arrived from, her outfit being cute and simple. Something that matched her pretty well.
(F/n) blushed in embarrassment. She suddenly thought that she was now the ugliest of the four.
"While we're waiting for the boys, d'you guys wanna try that new drink they have at Star D'lux? I heard that it's really good!" Futaba suggested.
"Stars D'lux? Ahhh, they're my favourite!" Yuri squealed. "I heard that they have a new cake too!"
Shuuko smiled, happy to have her best friends back again. "Really? I haven't heard anything about a new cake, Yuri. Though, I did hear about a new latte."
"But—but I'm sure that there's a new cake!" Yuri protested. Sudden doubt clouded in her eyes, making her bottom lip quiver. "I think..."
(F/n) chuckled at the girl's cuteness. "It's okay, we'll find some new cake that you could try out. Maybe not from... what's it called? Stars D'lux, but we'll find something."
Yuri's eyes twinkled with admiration as she heard (f/n) say that. She knew, from that moment on, that she had found someone she looked up to.
"Senpai!" She galloped her in a hug and stuck onto her like glue. It was impossible to take her off.
"Woah, 'senpai'? I don't even know who's older yet—you or me?" The four girls laughed at the scene and made (f/n) forget about how insecure she was about her appearance.
"Come on, then, let's go!" They all followed Futaba into a small shop, where the scent of coffee and tea numbed their senses.
As (f/n) looked left and right in the shop, the three girls ventured forth and looked for any available space.
