~Tyler~
The guards opens the door to the train for them. This was it. They were finally here. Tyler moves his cart down the slope, and takes a deep breath. The air was so clean, and rich. It was nothing like the air back in the Central City, with all the pollution and buildings. The grass tickles the space between Tyler's black pants, and gray socks. It was a light yellow, most of it was probably dead. Tyler assumed it didn't rain much here. The grass near the train tracks, was a fairly good height, but the deeper you went the higher it became. Leaves swayed on the branches of the trees and Tyler was surprised there were so many. Most of the trees in the Central City had been cut down to make more buildings for the increasingly large population.
"There's so much green," Allie notes, "It's actually quite beautiful." Tyler was so caught up in the scenery he didn't even notice Allie approach him. He nods in response, and removes all his bags from his cart. Tyler lays the one filled with weapons on the ground, and opens it up. Inside were three guns, one was small enough to fit in the holster Tyler had just slipped around his waist. The other two were about the size of his arm, Tyler shivered just thinking about how much damage you could do with them. He had only used the pistol in training, but he had learned how to shoot with the revolvers.
"You could do a lot of destruction with those." Allie points out from behind Tyler. He bends over to pick one up. He clicks the bullet into place and holds it in the air, peering through the magnifier attached to the gun.
"Drop your weapon!" A voice shouts. Tyler cocks his head to see the guard who had opened the door for them holding his pistol in front of Allie. Allie nods, and places the gun on the floor. The guard instructs him to place his hands behind his head, and he does so. "You're under arrest for identity theft." The guard continues, "We were ordered to bring you back to the Central City where your case will be held." The guard steps closer to him, but in one swift motion, Allie- if that we even his name anymore- picks up the gun and squeezes the trigger. A loud sound rings through the vast land and a bullet launches out of the tube and knocks the guard down, landing in his chest. The gun the guard was holding dropped to the floor with a soft thud.
Allie says something, but it doesn't register with Tyler's brain. His vision was now blurry and his ears were ringing. Then Tyler feels a force drag him somewhere. All he could feel was the motion of his shoes hitting the ground. Again and again. Everything around him was spinning. But, he continued running, guilt spreading through his chest, mixing with the pain from running too fast. His breathing was heavy, and he had no idea where he was. After a while, he stops, the ache in his feet so bad he couldn't continue anymore. He peers behind him, and notices the guard lying on the floor, blood pouring from his stomach and staining his shirt.
"Come on, we're not far enough." Allie shouts. Without waiting for a response, he grabs Tyler's hands and pulls him forward, breaking into a run. His chest was burning, his legs felt like they were on fire and Tyler's heart was racing.
After they were far enough, Tyler rips his hand away from Allie's. "What the fuck!" He shouts. "What's going on? Did you really have to shoot him?" He looks over at Allie, demanding an answer. He was so angry and confused.
But, instead Allie points at a spot on the ground, "We need to hide," He responds, ignoring Tyler's questions. They weren't being chased at the moment, but Tyler was sure that in a few minutes, a whole team of guards would be after them. Allie grabs his hold of Tyler's wrist again, this time tighter, and they move forward closer to the spot where he pointed at before.
"What is so important about this spot? We need to take advantage of our head start by losing them in the-" Tyler points out. But he stops when he notices a handle sticking above the ground. Allie rushes over and pulls it open.
"Get inside," He commands. Tyler looks behind him, to see if anyone was near and to his surprise there was no one. "I'll cover the handle, with some mud and leaves." Tyler nods as he slips inside, climbing down a ladder. The area was narrow and small and lit by a single lightbulb. Tyler could a spot a few spider webs, from the glow of the light. After a few seconds, Allie joins him, and crouches down next to Tyler.
For a while no one says anything. Tyler wanted answers, but he wasn't sure where to start. He decides to start with what the guard wanted from him. He was just about to speak, when to his surprise Allie begins talking. "My name's not really Allie Kovac." He confesses, reading Tyler's mind, and for a moment Tyler just stares at him, he wanted to say something but he had no idea what to say. So he just lets him babble on. "My actual name is Josh Dun. I did something bad, worse than what I did now, and I had to run away, before I got caught, even if it was to a place filled with monsters." He mumbles.
"What did you do?" Tyler wonders, what could be worse than shooting a guard?
"I was the one who robbed Myle's house." Josh admits, he was one of the four leaders of the Central City. The robbery had happened two weeks ago, and the police were still trying to figure out who did it. Josh took everything, including $40 000.
Tyler was about to ask why he did it, and what he did what the money, when a thought crossed his mind. Why was no one coming after them?
"They're not chasing us anymore." Tyler mutters, as he tries to unscramble all the ideas racing through his head.
Josh remained quiet for a second, the silence proving what Tyler had said, they would have heard footsteps by now. "What?" The train horn sounds, followed by the rustle of the train crossing the tracks.
That's when an idea clicks, and everything begins to makes sense. "They're not coming after us, because they need me to kill the monsters for them." Tyler explains, "There's also no point in coming after us since there are monsters everywhere and we're armed. It's not like we can leave the Zones anyways?"
"So we're safe?" Josh confirms.
Tyler nods, "well as safe as you can be in a place filled with monsters?" Josh laughs and moves over to climb the ladder. Tyler follows close behind, and watches as Josh slams his shoulder into the door pushing it upwards. He slips out of the bunker, and lands on the grass. He offers Tyler a hand for support, and Tyler gladly accepts it. Once he's out, he dusts his pants and a holds a hand up in front of his eyes to block out the sun. With everything going on, Tyler had left all his luggage behind. He spots the cart, several kilometers away. He didn't even realize how far he had ran. Sighing Tyler and Josh begin their walk back.
