I Want To Be A Ranger

One week na ako dito pero hindi pa rin ako maka get-over sa ganda nang lugar. After naming makita ang buong Copulo de Uno sa Minaret,  we also did tours para makita ang ibang buildings at ang kung para saan ito. I have to say, the place was carefully planned. Copulo de Uno was the center or capitol of our Dome, the first class city.  The dream place of everyone who wanted to make it big and escape the poverty and pollution of the districts sorrounding it.

Sabi ni kuya, ang Copulo de Uno ang namumukod tanging capitol sa mga domes.  Yes,  there are other domes too,  but our dome is the first ever na nabuo ng gobyerno to protect the survivors of nuclear war from radiation - and from the horrors that the war created as what my brother said. I have no idea kung anong horror ang tinutukoy niya but it must have been really dangerous kaya aside from from veil which protects us from radiation, there is a 1 kilometer pit filled with landmines surrounding the perimeter of the dome. The same pit where criminals meet their end.

They also have a museum, pictures and videos of what life is a thousand years ago. It's sad to know of how much they have had yet lost all of it because of the war. Pictures of endless trees on the forests, animals which I haven't seen before,  flowers and fruits of different colors and sizes, they were all beautiful . There were even pictures of what they call festivals where people wear colorful clothes and accessories.

"Cayden Bramwell",  nahinto ako sa pagmuni-muni nang tinawag na ang pangalan ko.

"Please follow me," sabi nang babaeng tumawag sa akin.

Naramdaman ko ang titig nang ibang recruits na hinihintay rin matawag ang pangalan nila. I did not dare to look at them, I just followed the woman. She stopped before a door and signaled me to get inside. Career Assessment, ito ang nakapaskil sa pinto.

The woman who spoke at the Minaret was waiting for me inside the room.
"Sit down", she ordered gesturing the chair in front. There were stacks of papers on her desk and got one at the top. She looked at it then faced me with a smile. "Hello,  Cayden. I believe you already saw me at the Minaret. I'm Alia and I will discuss with you the careers you can choose from".

" I have reviewed your data sheet and I believe you will do best with our corporate team and handle administrative responsibilities. Or, you can choose to join our science team."

"I would like to be a ranger,  maam",  I told her.

Kumunot ang noo niya,  "Why? You have good records from your school, you're smart, you have a good family background. You have a good future ahead of you, bakit mo  sasayangin lahat ng yon to become a ranger?"

It was my turn para kumunot noo ko. "I'm sorry but..."

She interrupted me,  "Cayden, look at it this way, your brother is one of the top personality on the corporate world and your father did not just retire as a great scientist but he is also one of the big bosses of the council. You can never achieve that by being a ranger".

"I know that, maam. But I wanted to do something different", I answered.

"Alright,  if you want to do something different, then why not join the army instead? A few years from now you can be a general", she said with a convincing smile.

"Thank you for the advise, maam. But all I want to be is become a ranger". Naiinis na ako sa babaeng to. Ano bang pakialam niya sa gusto ko sa buhay ko.

She tried to convince me one more time. "Cayden, you're still 17 years old and believe me, you'll think that being a ranger is exciting and full of adventures since you get to go outside the dome, but it is dangerous out there. Why do think the domes are created,  it is to protect people like you. Only 10 percent of the recruits are given the chance to join our corporate and science team. The 80 percent are thrown to the military and only 30 percent were absorbed to join the army, the rest are thrown to become rangers. Do you know why? "

" No", I said.

"Dahil patapon sila, wala silang pinag-aralan to qualify for the corporate or scientific field and have no enough credibility to be accepted to the army. Only 50 percent of them survives and graduates to become a ranger because the trainings are harsh that recruits die from exhaustion", she explained.

"I appreciate your concern,  Maam Alia, but I still want to become a ranger".

She sighed, "Are you sure? Once I mark your data sheet, there will be no turning back? You are choosing a dangerous path and not even your father can save you there.

" Yes, maam", I said bravely.  "I want to become a Ranger".
