Castiel helped load Melissa into the ambulance that speedily arrived at the McCall house. Dean would have helped too, but considering he is still being hunted in some states, he thought it would be better if he phoned and left Castiel to handle the physical part. Just as the paramedic was slamming the back doors of the vehicle, a hand clamped onto the door and resisted against the doctor.
"Mom? Oh my God," Scott said as he came into view of his mom. Several scratches were placed on Melissa's kind face, but the colossal damage was on her side, near her rib cage: her blood seeping through was a ruby river. "What the hell did you do?" Scott shouted at Castiel.
"This was neither mine nor Dean's doing Scott. I promise you," Castiel spoke protectively to protest his and Dean's innocence.
Once hearing Scott's voice, Dean marched out of the house to gather the group; figure out their next move. "Scott," he called, "I know your mom's hurt, but they said nothing looks too fatal. So, wee need to get inside, and--"
"Why can't Castiel heal her like he did with Liam?" Brett had appeared. Dean rolled his eyes.
"I tried. But, something was stopping me. I think from feeling his soul and then healing him, it drained my powers somehow," Castiel explained. "But I could still sense it wasn't life threatening."
"Okay, with that said, can we get inside and figure out what the hell we're going to do next?!" Dean tried to order, but Scott was the leader in this neighbourhood.
"No, we're going to do thing's my way, as my mom is now at the brink of death because we already listened to you guys once today," Scott bit back. Brett swarmed behind the Alpha to show he was not going to back down either. Not this time.
"I'm sorry, kid, but what you don't understand is that my brother's been kidnapped by this freaking Demon that did this to your mom, got to Liam last night, and God knows who's next!" At this point, Dean would storm off to erupt in the Impala, but that would just remind him of where it was the last time his brother was seen. Alive.
Countless times, each Winchester has been kidnapped by the enemy, and most time, both got through with a couple of bumps and scratches, but something felt ultimately different this time: the bad kind. A bottomless pit dragged Dean's heart down into to his stomach, wanting to through it up and out.
"Oh, Dean, I'm sorry," Scott said cautiously, "I--I had no idea."
"Ugh, it's fine. This happens all the time, you know, but," Dean sighed, "can we just go inside? Please?"
"If everything you said about my mom is true - which I do believe you guys on - then, yeah, let's go," Scott admitted. To be honest, there was more hope and optimism in Scott than the doubt he felt before (mainly put there by Stiles).
One by one, they charged into the house once again, and so did the ambulance down the street; whisking Melissa away for her survival.
"Right, so, what do we do now?" Brett questioned as he was awfully confused.
"When did you realise Sam was missing?" Scott asked.
"About..." Dean looked to Castiel for help in an answer, but was useless as he was in a world of his own (as per usual). "10 minutes ago. Cass and I came inside to check on Lydia, then we found--"
"That was it!" Scott exclaimed, "How did I not realise sooner?" he whispered the latter to himself.
"Realise what, Scott?" Brett questioned.
"Sam phoned me and asked us to swing by here - said you had an "update on this case", or whatever. But then he got confused and was convinced we were at the house. He said t was because you guys just dropped Lydia off here. But she definitely never mentioned about coming over. Actually, we hadn't heard from her in nearly a day," Scott clarified. "Then he quickly put the phone down. That was probably about 10 minutes ago too."
"How could we have been so stupid? How didn't we see she was possessed?" Dean expressed.
"Maybe because she wasn't..." Castiel mumbled.
But no one heard him. Dean phone began vibrating and emitting the happy tune that followed. Dean was quick to answer, as quick as if slaughtering a Vampire.
"Yes, who is this?" asked eagerly.
"Dean," the sweet sound of Sam's voice calmed Dean's heart, slightly, "it's okay, it's just me."
"Oh, thank God, Sammy," Scott, Brett and Castiel all looked bewildered at each other at the fact Sam was calling - alive and well. "What happened to you? I came out to get you when we found--" Dean tried defending himself, as to why they hadn't followed or found his brother yet. Yet, he was swiftly cut at the tongue by Sam.
"Sorry, yeah, I should have come in and told you where I was going."
"That doesn't matter, Sammy," Dean paced across the floor, trying to take his mind off the fact Sam wasn't within his physical view, "just as long as you're safe. So, where did you go?"
"I just started wandering around this, eh, sort-of, funkytown, looking for anything odd, but now I'm at the school's library looking up any lore that could be relevant." now Dean felt like panicking. "Think I'm going to head back, so, where are you guys at now?"
"Oh," he scooped the room, trading a scared look with Castiel, "we're still here at Scott's house. Scott and Brett came back. Just hurry up and finish then, then come get us. Okay?"
"Yeah, sure, see--" Several beeps burst through Dean's ear as the called ended - oddly abrupt. Dean slowly lowered his phone whilst simultaneously raising his head.
"Sammy's in trouble," Dean scoffed.
