{Jake's POV}

     After hours of scouring through books with Jinxx, and Andy being stuck in a trance searching for answers, we all finally decided it was time to go to bed. I followed Jinxx up to our room after dinner, yawning as I got out of my leather clothes. Jinxx pulled me closer to him, smiling. "I love you."

     "I love you, too," I replied, giving him a kiss before turning and closing my eyes, quickly falling asleep.

{Jinxx's POV}

     I fell asleep a few hours after Jake. I was sleeping peacefully when I was woken up by footsteps. Peering through half-lidded eyes, I looked up across the room and saw something that looked like a man made of shadows near the bed. I jumped up, turning towards the figure with my hands raised, ready to fight. I grew worried when I didn't see Jake in the bed. "Jake? Where is he?!" I yelled.

     The creature remained silent, inching towards me. I looked at the door, then raised my arms and quickly brought them down, disappearing from the room in a puff of smoke and reappearing in the hallway. I had to warn the others, and find Jake. The creature appeared in the hallway, and sprinted towards me. I ran through the dark hallway towards CC's room, banging on his door when I reached it. He opened the door, looking at me, shocked. "Jinxx, what's-" he stopped when he saw the Shadow-Man.

     "Run, I'll keep him distracted! Go warn Andy and Ash," I ordered. He nodded and ran down the hall. I faced the man, squinting through the dark in an attempt to see his face. With a flick of my wrist, I conjured a ball of light, illuminating the hallway, and froze.

     "J-Jake?!" He looked a little different from the Shadow we'd fought yesterday. His eyes weren't red, they were their normal shade of brown. He glared at me murderously, shadows swirling at his feet. "Jake, this isn't you. Just...talk to me, baby. Tell me what's wrong," I said, inching backwards in case I needed to run.

     He snarled and held up a hand. "I don't want to talk to you. I want to kill you!" He growled. Green smoke moved from his hand towards me.

     "Jinxx, move!" Someone shouted. Someone pushed me out of the way, knocking me to the floor. I looked up to see CC standing in front of Jake, where I had previously stood. The green smoke reached him. CC grasped at his throat, coughing and choking.

     "CC!" Andy shouted, pushing against Ashley as he tried to hold him back.

     "D-Don't..." CC stuttered, turning to Andy. CC fell to his knees, and I held out my hand.

     "CC, move!" I ordered. I didn't have to, though, because as I spoke, CC collapsed, unconscious, his breath coming in raspy gasps. I summoned a ball of light, and aimed it at Jake. I flinched as he backed away, trying to get away from the light while also screaming in pain. I drew the light away for a moment, and just as I did, Jake screamed again. Black smoke poured out of his mouth and nose before he collapsed.

     I rushed to my feet and to his side, checking his pulse. "He's alive," I breathed in relief.

     "CC?" Andy asked, leaning over CC nervously. I ran over to CC next.

     "CC? Come on, wake up," I pleaded, sensing a faint pulse.

     A weak, shaky exhale of breath passed his lips as his eyes opened. He immediately choked, eyes growing frantic. "I...I can't breathe," he cried, gasps for air turning into painful gagging.

     "Hey, just relax. I'll fix it," I assured him. I placed my hands over him, checking to see what the problem was. "It's poison! Hang tight, C, you'll be fine," I said. I took a deep breath, and started drawing the poison out, my hands glowing a faint green, my magic neutralizing it as it hit my hands. After a few minutes, CC started to breathe normally again. I sat back, taking some deep breaths.

     "Bring him to his room. He needs rest, and so do Jake and I," I sighed, turning my head towards Jake's still form.

     "I'll take him. Andy, can you take care of Jake?" Ashley asked.

    "I can...get Jake," I grunted, slowly rising to my feet. Ash gave me a hand, steadying me.

     "No, you cannot. Let Andy take Jake. You need to sleep," He instructed. I sighed, but finally caved.

     "Okay. Thanks, guys,"

     Ash smiled at his simple victory. "No problem. I'll see you in the morning," He said, lifting CC into his arms and heading into his room. Andy lifted up Jake and, walking slowly alongside me, brought him into our room.

     "Thanks, Andy," I said, climbing into bed and helping him ease Jake down beside me.

     "You're welcome, Jinxx. Get some sleep. I'll see you tomorrow." Andy left the room. I closed my eyes, falling into a very light sleep.
