It's because she didn't use her dark side.
And like she said before "I don't know how to use my quirk as well as Kacchan." Something along the lines of that... She doesn't know how to control her quirk... Whenever she doesn't use both her light side and dark side equally her body will be overflowing with power and will end up hurting her. So until she can master her quirk she has to use both equally...
