"I also know that Brandon isn't what you think he is," Jace said and I held my hand up to stop him from saying more.
"You're going to tell me that he's actually a sweetheart and had his heart broken that's why he's so rude?"
Jace's eyes widened and a smile was planted on his lips, "actually, no."
"You may continue what you were going to say then."
"Brandon is a monster," he said with a stern face and a serious tone. We stayed quiet, my eyes looking into his waiting for him to start laughing as it is obviously a joke.
"Nice try," I laughed, "I almost believed that!"
The expression on Jace's face was still serious, his brown orbs fixing me as if I were a mad woman.
"Well," I said deciding to go along with this very weird conversation, "how can someone so handsome be a monster? I mean what makes you say he's a monster?"
"You're used to movie monsters as these deformed grotesque things, but truth is that monsters are all around us. They look like your next door neighbor, they look like your mother, they look like privileged kids."
He took a deep breath before continuing, "monsters look like you, they look like me and look like Brandon."
I didn't say a word. I know it was funny but not anymore.
"He must've asked you about your beliefs in reincarnation," he said. I nodded.
"160 years ago, Brandon and I were very close friends." He fully turned to face me, his left leg flexed on the bed and holding the pillow between his hands, "Brandon was the child of a Vampire mother and a Demon father."
I posed my cheek on the palm of my head nodding at every word he said and he took that as a sign of comprehension, so he continued, "smell had taken over as Brandon's primary sense. He no longer cared what people looked like, it was their aroma that counted."
I have no idea why I'm still listening to this, Jace must be high on drugs or something.
"From across the street, he could detect the sugar levels in a person's blood and the subtle flavor hues unknown to science and the medical minds back then. An uncontrolled diabetic was like walking candy, he could tell them how sweet they were as he led them to the closest place he could dine undisturbed."
He stopped and watched me nod again before carrying on.
"He may be handsome, but when his blood is warm you wouldn't recognize him."
"You sure you're sober? Because honestly-" I started and he cut me off, "I warned you but it's really up to you, Gabrielle. You're the one who's going to fall head over heels in love with a reincarnated demon."
He stood up and quickly left the room, closing the door. I walked to it at a fast pace to question him more but Brandon was standing in the door's frame.
"Uh, hey!" I waved then mentally slapped my face at how stupid I'm acting.
"Are you in a rush for something?" He asked raising his eyebrows and I shook my head moving myself to the side, letting him in.
He was nothing like what Jace said. A descendant of a Vampire mother and a Demon father, eh?
Pale with overgrown canines, a dislike of garlic and maybe a red cape with flames? No, Brandon is a regular guy, almost.
His skin was a little on the waxy side and the daylight didn't bother him at all.
His sense of humor was dark though, but there was a room for sentimentality, and he's the only person I know who never get offended over anything.
But reincarnation of a monster? Definitely not.
"Where were you?" I asked crossing my arms under my chest in an attempt to make my boobs a little bit perkier through the pink tank top I was wearing.
"Is that your way of saying that you're missing me?" He made a grimace that looked a mix of a smirk and a smile.
I rolled my eyes even though he was right, I did miss him. In the span of a second, Brandon was standing tall in front of me.
"Come on Gabrielle, say it," he said looking down at me, his breath tickling me, "because I missed you too."
Breathing heavily, my hands rested on his chest trying to push him away as his body was pressing me against the wall.
"Brandon," I spoke feeling his hold on my waist tighten.
"Didn't you miss me?" He pouted lowering his head so we were on the same height level.
His face moved closer and our lips touched briefly. I closed my eyes anticipating the kiss but...there was nothing.
I opened one eye and saw him on the bed smiling and throwing a minty gum inside his mouth.
The constant teasing he's doing isn't helping at all.
"You did not miss me, so?" He laughed and I threw a pillow on his face, however, his hands fastly captured it and placed it behind his head as a support.
"You like it rough, huh?" He smiled again lying on my bed and getting comfortable.
I walked to my closet and chose a blue high waisted skirt and a white lace top to tuck it inside of it.
"I wouldn't mind seeing you change, make yourself at home," he said, his dark eyes following my every move.
"I'm going to take a shower, I'll meet you at the restaurant," I waved and walked into the bathroom.
I stepped into the shower, toes flinching as they touched the chilled ceramic floor, turning the water on high and letting it beat over my head in steamy rivulets.
I wrapped a towel around my body and another one around my hair once done and left the shower, the freezing air welcoming me. The bathroom mirror was blurry when I looked in it so I cleared the fog with my wet hand.
That was when I let out a scream of terror and nearly fell on my ass if Brandon's arms didn't catch me.
