I watched the time barely pushing ten pm while sitting on the bed's edge.
I was wearing comfortable shorts and a plain black shirt. Luckily, Andrew didn't come again.
Blake said we'll be leaving tonight and I can't hide the anxiety that took over me. What if they get us? We'll be screwed.
I heard the noise of a key in the lock and then the door swung open, not slowly like Blake did when he came, but fast and with enough force to drive the door into the plaster opposite.
Speaking of the devil.
I stood, my breathing suspended, reaching for a lamp near the bed and watched Andrew storm in.
"Please don't kill me with that dangerous lamp!" He laughed sarcastically and in less than two seconds, the lamp was on the floor and I was pinned to the wall.
I groaned in pain and he opened his mouth, his sharp fangs showing and making me sweat in fear.
What have I done to deserve this?
Staring into his eyes and nervously biting my lip, his eyes were fixing me unemotionally and my body was shaking.
"Why isn't Brandon here yet?" He asked.
"Because I'm not his girlfriend," I answered right away making him smirk, "doesn't seem like that, sweetheart."
Letting go of me, I stood where I was leaning on the wall and watched him as he made his way outside.
Blake went in right after Andrew left, his head turning sideways as if checking that he was gone.
"Good evening," he said. I sat on the ground, "yes, very good evening."
"You know I can do nothing about Andrew right now, I'd get my brother killed if I do."
Nodding, I stood up and sat on a chair nearby, "when are we leaving?"
"Right now," he said, "I'll meet you on the roof."
"What if they catch me trying to find the roof?"
"That's up to your super spy skills, embrace the ninja that's inside of you!" He said dramatically and my lip twitched in a smile, "I am a ninja!"
"Good," he said resting his hands on my shoulders, "that's the spirit."
"You'll find a small metal door at the very end of the upper corridor, it leads to the roof. Be fast and don't panic," he said and I nodded, still happy with the fact that I was a ninja.
Blake winked at me and walked out. I spent a few minutes inhaling and exhaling then put my hair up in a bun and left the room as well.
Walking the long corridor, my head was spinning in all the directions afraid that someone may find me. Running up the stairs, I came to a huge door that I knew was the one leading to the roof.
How am I supposed to open this?
My trembling fingers held the knob and turned it around again and again but to no avail. The loud noises it made created an awful feeling of terror inside of me.
How am I going to open this?
Taking a deep breath and pulling the knob with both hands while my leg pushed against the wall to give more power to my powerless body.
Falling to the ground, I realised that was not going to work. However, my body didn't really hurt when I hit the floor violently. That's something new.
I rested my arms on my knees helplessly trying to remember the movies I watched of magic, mythical creatures and Greek Gods.
What if they've put a spell on this door?
Why would someone put a spell on a door leading to the roof?
"Open up dumb-head!" I said pissed off and the door opened slowly making my eyes go wide and my mouth drop open.
I stepped outside to discover that yes, I've successfully made it to the roof. I closed the door quietly wishing there was a way to lock it from the outside.
If I say Close up dumb-head would it close?
I hugged myself and shivered at the cold wind that brushed against my body. I looked down to see how far up I was and suddenly felt nauseous.
Feeling eyes on me, I straightened myself and turned to see a silhouette of a man in the darkness of the night.
I was relieved when Blake came out of the shadows.
"Alright, how do we get down?" I asked and he stepped next to me, "do you trust me?"
"Of course not."
"Well, you have to. We're going to jump over to that building," he said calmly, pausing as he watched my jaw drop.
There was a loud bang and the door to the roof slammed open revealing a furious Julia.
Blake quickly grabbed my waist and hoisted me up so I was on his back. Wrapping my arms around his shoulders tightly.
His legs effortlessly ran, gliding across the floor as he lurched for the steps. I shut my eyes tightly as he jumped off the roof and we made our way through the air. We landed and before opening my eyes I heard him whisper, "Hold on to me," and jumping again for the next building that was a garage.
He sped across the woods surrounding us and all I could see were dark lines of green, brown and midnight blue. When we stopped my feet hit the cold floor and I looked around me.
An old-fashioned house that was badly in need of improvements. The dingy brick walls were streaked by the drippage from the leaky tin gutter that ran along the roof. The massive shutters, thrown back from the long windows, were rotting away. Below the lifted panes very clean worn curtains hung slack like things exhausted by the heat.
"It's my dad's place," he said pushing the door open against the tide of objects and liquids that littered the floor on the other side.
I couldn't see even a square centimeter of his bedroom carpet. Blake picked his way across the room on tiptoe, trying not to stand on any of the blood and unknown things. Smelly corpses were mixed up with several pairs of underpants, sweaty t-shirts, a pair of jeans and several library books.
My nose wrinkled in disgust, "How could you survive in here?"
Liquor, vomit and burnt meat, unwashed clothes and mouse droppings have intermingled into a stench that brings tears to my eyes.
"We did not," he smiled.
