every day his eyesight worsened, but he couldn't find it in himself to hate her. he blamed himself. he didn't try hard enough to save her; he didn't get her professional help when he had the chance; he was too obsessed with trying to force her darkness out with his unconditional love, and it eventually blinded him. literally and figuratively.
she couldn't be saved. she didn't want to be saved. she wanted to save. he was blind to this and didn't side with her, even though he was supposed to be her fiance. he betrayed her and rejected her treatment. he ruined everything, all because he was blind—long before his eyesight disappeared.
