Yoosung Kim
Once the cakes had cooled off, it was time to decorate them.
"So the trick to a good cake is to put icing between the layers of the cakes." She demonstrated and smeared some white icing on the top of the biggest cake. Then, carefully and precisely, she placed one of the cakes on top of the icing.
"Interesting," Yoosung said, watching her as she concentrated on decorating the cake.
"Now, I don't trust you enough to decorate this, but you can decorate the small cake you made," she offered, gesturing to the cake he made that was still in the cake pan. Surprisingly, the cake looked okay. It wasn't under-baked, and it didn't overflow. "So, do as I did, and get the cake out."
Hesitantly, he flipped the pan over and lightly tapped the sides and top to get the cake to come out. He lifted the pan, and underneath was an ordinary cake. It wasn't broken or gooey. "Yes!" he cheered, and she laughed as she watched his joy at making a successful cake.
"Nice! I told you you could do it!" she said, and he looked at her with excitement in his eyes. "Now, icing."
The excitement was replaced by fear. "Oh, no."
"Oh, yes!" she said and gestured to the bowls in front of her. "Color preference?" He shook his head. "Here's some red, then."
She then started decorating her own cake for the customer that requested it for tomorrow. Every so often, she would glance over at him, who is spreading the icing all over his cake.
His work, honestly, looked like a crime scene. Even though she was on the other side of the counter, she could see how messily he slopped the icing onto the top, with the red icing starting to drip down the sides. Pressing her lips together to keep herself from laughing at his attempt, she focused on her own creation. "Done!" His cake, although 1/3 the size of hers, took the same amount of time to complete.
"Me too," she said with a smile. "Can I see yours?"
"If you show me yours," he said, and she rolls her eyes.
"I was always going to show you, dummy." She waved him over, and he came to her.
"Wow, [Y/N]. This is even better than the one I ruined—"
"Yoosung!" she exclaimed, playfully hitting the side of his arm.
"Sorry, sorry!" He rubbed the side of his arm. "Touchy..." She ignored him and walked over to where his cake was and looked at it.
"What do you think?" he asked, nervously. He appeared right behind her, looking at his creation along with her. She felt like she had lost her voice. She didn't know how to react, and he immediately assumed the worst: that she hated it. "I—I'm not a professional but—"
"It's awesome, Yoosung," she cut him off, giving him a small smile as she admired his creation. Scrawled sloppily across the top of the cake was 'Thank u 4 teaching me' written in white icing. As she read his words, her heart fluttered. He always did things like this: sweet, cute things that weren't good for her poor heart. "I can't wait to eat it!"
"Eat it?" he asked, suddenly scared. "A—Are you sure you want to eat this?"
"You washed you hands, right?" she asked, and he nodded. "Then, yes, I'm sure."
"I—If you're sure..." he trailed off, not sure if this was a good idea or not.
"I watched everything you put into it, Yoosung. It'll be okay! Maybe even good!" He fake-glared at her, and she giggled. "Let's dig in."
