ASHER'S POINT OF VIEW!
Loud sounds fill my room as my door bursts open. My little sister stands in the doorway, her hair is a ragged mess and she looks like death itself coming to life in a human form. Her face is pale and her eyes have dark pits under them.
"Mandy?" I ask sitting up so we can have a proper conversation.
"I'm sick." She says quietly choking down sobs.
"Wouldn't have guessed it." I say with a smile, trying to make her feel better. She is only ten, even though she doesn't carry herself like she is nearly seven years younger than me.
"Asher I don't know what to do!" She wails letting tears stream down her face.
"Come on, little one." I reply, taking her with me into the kitchen. "What type of sick are you?"
"I couldn't go to sleep last night. Couldn't keep down my breakfast. My throat hurts so bad." She complains.
"Okay," I say grabbing some medicine that will help with her little bug.
"Will you stay with me Asher?" she asks me with her innocent eyes searching for help.
Sighing, I tell her "Can't baby doll. I have to go to school today or they will make me do community service."
"Oh, that's okay, I'll be okay." she mutters as a fit of coughing takes over.
"Go back to your room and sleep it off Mandy." I command.
After she is gone I pour myself a cup of straight black coffee and drink it dry. Today seems like it has quite a bit more in store for me. Leaving the kitchen I glance at the clock, which tells me there are twenty minutes until the tardy bell rings. Crap.
"London!" I call out to my brother. A few minutes pass by with no answer so I go up stairs and into his room where he is still dead asleep.
Feeling cruel I walk over to the guitar stand and put on some noise cancelling head phones. Plugging the guitar into it's amp I strum wild and random chords. London wakes up angrily and throws something solid in the direction of me.
Taking off the headphones I rip the covers off of the bed and yell at my older sibling "Less than twenty minutes to get ready!"
WIth those words he jumps out of bed and starts pulling clothes out of drawers and his closet. Silently laughing to myself I go across the hall to my room and change into a t-shirt and jeans with my dark blue Vans. Once I'm ready I go back down to Mandy's room to say goodbye to her.
"Mandy?" I ask as I knock on the door, letting myself in once she says it's okay.
"What?" She replies looking up at me from her curled up position on her bed.
I bend down to grab the trashcan and I bring it to her bedside "Try not to get your sick anywhere else okay? I can't afford to get sick right now. You know where the meds are and if you need a cold rag for your head I can get you one before I leave."
"No, I'll be fine." She says so I turn around to leave her room just as I am stepping out I hear her small voice again " Asher?" She asks quietly.
"Hmm?" I reply .
"Have a good day."
With that I close her door and head out. London and I go to school together so I will be waiting until he is done getting ready and gets his butt out here. Two minutes become ten and I know we are going to be late. It's a fact. I don't have time for detention today!
After fifteen more minutes he finally comes out and he looks like he spent the whole time on his hair, and it still looks terribly horrible. When he gets into the driver side of the automobile I make a few jokes about his hair so he punches me in the shoulder, hard.
