ASHER'S Perception
The Saturday morning sun bursts through my open window and draws me out of bed so I can shut my eyes before the natural light blinds me. A loud racket from downstairs makes me go down to make sure Mandy isn't lighting the house on fire or something insane to rebel against her self inflicted punishment.
When I get down I see that the case is worse than Mandy lighting the house on fire. London is cooking. My eyes bulge at the sight of my jock brother flipping eggs and flapping at the smoke detector simultaneously.
"London!" I scold, running to the kitchen to grab a towl so I can fan away the smoke. "Why are you cooking?"
"Oh, I just wanted to do something nice for my hardworking family!" He says with fake joy dripping on every word
"Cut to the chase butt wipe." I insult him, earning a glare from him.
"I want to get out of family night to take a girl on a date." He says in a low tone so my father doesn't here
"You can't get out! Dad loves family night!" I hiss at him under my breath
"I know that dumb prickle! That's why I'm cooking for him." London explains
"Well he will never let you go if you give him that crap." I say motioning to the food
"Thanks for the intell captain obivous." London spits chucking the eggy pan into the sink to wash it off.
I think about Alice last night and how hopeless she was. I think about the anger that surged through me as I saw her being touched by that pervy donkey. I shake out of my thoughts and realize I am clenching my fists so hard my nails are creating little crevices in my flesh. I think of her tear streaked face and her raccoon eyes of running mascara. Then, I think of how she doesn't have friends anymore.
"I have an idea." I say quietly and London looks at me expectantly "Well, there's this girl, and I think that if we tell Dad we are going on a double date he will let us. We don't have to go on a double date but we can just tell him we are."
"Man you are a genius!" London chuckles slapping me on the back and I notice how strong he is.
He and I are nearly as tall and we look very similar. He has green eyes and dark brown hair much like my blue eyes and dark brown hair. While my hair is swooped across my forehead his is spiked up into a small quiff so it doesn't cover his forehead. He is only a year older than me but it only took him a year to build up significantly more muscle than me. I have abs but nothing like his ripped arms, legs, and torso.
"What are you boys doing?" My old man says as he walks into the kitchen with his relaxation t-shirt and jeans.
"Just wanting to ask you a question." London says, smoothly moving to prop himself against the counter.
"If it's about getting away from family night," Dad says breaking off to my interuption
"I met a girl okay? London and I were wondering if we could go on a double date. I really like her and I want this to work out for me. I need someone, Dad, I need her." I confess to him, whole heartedly
"Wow, you, you like someone?" Dad says astonished. The thing is, I've never really liked anyone since the accident. No one is perfect and I see no reason to treat myself if I don't deserve anyone or anything but satan and hate.
"I'd hate to be the one to say it but, Asher, we thought you were gay." London laughs, clapping a hand onto my back which I grab, twisting it around so that it is behind his back. He doesn't stay in this position long, because he is stronger than me. Quickly he gets out and shoves me into the counter where the granite digs into my back bone.
