IX. | POWER IS POWER
The Red Keep, King's Landing, THE CROWNLANDS
THE HEAT WAS SUFFOCATING, ON THIS FESTIVE DAY. The five-and-tenth nameday of King Joffrey I was celebrated with great fanfare of fighting and jousting.
His aunt, Lady Athena, sat on his right, wearing a sleeveless gold dress with a plunging neckline, embroidered with tiny bold golden-brownish leafs, flowers and birds, accompanied by a feminine Dornish golden cape. Her beautiful hair was styled in a Northern Reach hairstyle; it quickly became hers and Margaery's signature hairdo. Unlike her soon-to-be aunt, Lady Sansa Stark was following the trending 'Cersei-style' by wearing a soft pink wrapped dress, embellished with the basic King's Landing hairstyle.
As Athena Lannister sported a bright smile and did not hesitate to laugh at the jokes of the sovereign, the fiery haired girl seemed less enchanted by the show. She wore a facade of false smiles, no warmth or enthusiasm could be seen on her porcelain face.
Before them was held the battle between the Hound and some knight without value or name. The battle... The killing, rather, thought the youngest Lannister while watching the young man receiving blows after blows from his opponent. They quickly precipitated him down the walls into the courtyard of the Red Keep under the cries of the courtiers gathered there. Joffrey jumped from his seat and approached the edge of the Promenade. "You fought well, Dog!" The King exclaimed loudly to his bodyguard. He then turned to the two young women by his side. "Don't you agree?"
"This fight was impressive, darling."
"He fought well, Your Majesty," responded Sansa. "I already said that he fought well."
"Oh, my King, don't torment your Lady," sighed Athena while grasping Joffrey's arm. "What does she know about battles? She cannot judge your guard's skill."
"Of course, you are right." He gave his aunt a charming smile and kissed the knuckles of her soft hand. The courtiers watched them without muttering a word.
Below a boy cleaned the wide red stain left by the knight on the paving of the yard. The King became impatient and asked what was to follow; Ser Lothor Brune, franc-runner, who was in the service of Lord Baelish and Ser Dontos Hollard..., who did not arrive. Athena cocked her head; she had often crossed the knight. An alcoholic, without lands and titles since Aerys the Mad had eradicated his House. She gave a questioning look to her nephew who shrugged.
They heard the sound of armour and the knight appeared near the Royal box. His breastplate was open, his helmet fell to the ground, and he was barely dressed below the waist. The crowd was howling in laughter... all but the King. "Are you drunk?"
"No. Uh, no, Your Grace. I had — I had two cups of wine."
"Two cups?" Ser Dontos nodded ashamedly. "That's not much at all," Joffrey gestured to the wine bearer to fetch the drink. "Are you sure, Your Grace?"
