Chapter Twenty-Eight

“What the hell do you think you were doing? You could have gotten killed, have you not learned that you are not invincible? Just because you are a shifter doesn't mean every injury won't kill you.” Papi growls as he lifts my shirt up to check on my ribs. I see that the other van has already left with the man I had been fighting, my lip curls up as I think of him and a small snarl leaves my lips.

“Don't you growl at me, young man.” Papi growls again as he brings his face close to mine and snarls back at me, much louder then I had previously done. Papi would never hurt me,but I know that he is upset that I could have gotten hurt. Papi loves hard, and he couldn't bare to lose anyone, especially one of his pups or one of his mates.

“I had to, Papi, you don't understand, but I had to, he was-”

“I don't care! We told you, you had to stay here, you were not to leave the van, and what did you do? You left the van! You got hurt because you went and did something stupid. A father shouldn't have to watch a child get hurt or die. It's not right, ad I'm not going to sit here and act like what you did is okay, because it's not, and I'm not going to lose any of you.” Papi’s eyes have tears pooled in them and I know that he isn't this emotional over everything that I have done.

They didn't find Laney, that much is sure. If the way no one was happy, wasn't a clue, then the tears in Papi’s eyes would be.

“I'm sorry, Papi, I'm sorry she wasn't here, but I did what I thought was right, and it may have been stupid, but I had to prove to that asshole that what he did to my family wasn't okay. I'm never going to let anyone hurt any of you ever again.” Tears are running down both of our faces as we continue to stare at each other.

I know Papa and Finn are watching us from wherever they are in the van, but I couldn't care, I want them to hear this, they need to hear this, they need to know that while I am around, I won't let anyone hurt them. I've learned that with Laney being taken. This was my fault, I know that now, I know that Dad won't talk or be around me anymore because he blames me, and Papi is mad at me because he knows I was at fault too.

“I don't want you to ever do anything that stupid ever again, do you hear me?” Papi asks as he places his hand on the tip of my head softly. I nod, even though you can tell it's a lie by looking into my eyes. Papi notices, and he shakes his head at me before sitting up and walking over to Papa, and ignoring all of us in the car.

Finn hesitantly gets up and comes to sit next to me, I know me getting hurt must be hurting him, because he is mated to me. I know he must be mad for what I have done, but all he does is take me in his arms and holds me. He holds me when I feel as if my entire world is falling about.
