"If you wanted my number you could have just asked for it." I yell as I run after the mysterious tall guy who somehow managed to take my phone without me noticing. "Not that I'd give it to you after what just happened." I mumbled as I got closer.
"What makes you think I want your number smart one?" he makes a comeback and I feel myself starting to blush.
"Well I.. I.. idk okay. Can I just have my phone back please?" I plead to him.
"Fine, but only if you actually give me your number. I'm interested in you mystery girl who accidentally bumped into me."
"Sure, whatever, and what if it wasn't an accident and it was just fate taking its course." I smile while writing my number on his hand.
"Sorry honey bunches, but I don't believe in fate." he makes a smart ass remark while smirking.
We both laugh and continue walking towards who the hell knows where. I'm lost.
"So what's your name anyways mystery boy?"
"Matthew Hannon, but you can call me tonight." he replies with a wink.
"Smooth smart guy." I say as a small smile creeps onto my face, the first of many more to come.
"You think I'm smart?" he laughs but then says "Now, I'm the king and I demand a name from you too ma'am."
I laugh and say "V for Vanessa, but my nicknames V." idk why I told him that, but I did.
"Well V, I'll see you later because I think we're neighbors."
"And you know this how?" a questioning look appearing on my face.
"Saw it on your binder miss. You really should learn how to protect yourself." he smiles.
"Ohhh, duh." I laugh. "and I hope you don't mind, but I've got to say this and it's going to be epic."
"Say what sweet cheeks?" he turns around heading the opposite direction.
"I'm not going to call you tonight. I'll call you Matty."
He continues walking away, but I can see the smile that's landed on his face. He gives a quick wave goodbye and I feel a subtle relief but then realize I have a class that starts in 15 minutes and I have no idea where it is.
I rush to the nearest campus map and am startled when someone behind me taps my shoulder.
"Hey, umm, I'm Abby. I'm the campus patrol and I was uhh wondering if you needed help finding a class or something." She speaks quietly, almost too quietly for me to hear.
"Yeah, umm actually I do. I'm looking for roo.." I say but she soon interrupts me.
"I'm just messing with you. Do I look like campus patrol." We both laugh. "But what room are you looking for, I'd be happy to lead the way."
As she leads me to room 315, we make conversation. She was actually nice company and I think we're going to be great friends.
*****
After class I head to the dormitories. My dorm is room 2040 and it's somewhere near the library. I remembered earlier what Matty said about being neighbors, and I was actually a bit excited. This year was definitely going to be an adventure. As I approach my room, someone I wasn't expecting swung the door open. It was Abby. I was really happy to be staying with someone I knew at least the littlest bit about.
"Omg!! Vanessa, we're like totally going to be the best of friends!!" she screams as she pulls me into our dorm. She leads me to my room and I'm filled with joy because I have a beautiful bay window.

"Dear diary, as basic as this sounds, I just wanted to tell you how great my first day was. My classes seem pretty simple so far, and I'm pretty excited for this year. I've met some really cool people and Abby is definitely going to be a lifesaver. When I walked into my room today, a memory flashed through my mind. When I was little my mom used to read to me in this beautiful bay window we had in our living room. I remembered the sound of the rain tapping against the window, the smell of the flowers she had set in the corner, the pillows she and grandma hand sewed.
My dad and I would have sleepovers in that bay window. He set up a portable tv screen and we'd watch movies together all night. This room is definitely going to be hard to stay in, but at the same time, it's beautiful and I'm glad to be here.
I should probably get some rest. I've got a big day ahead of me tomorrow. I have 2 more classes I have to find, and I have to fill out some paperwork to insure that I'm really doing this whole college thing. I'll talk to you later okay, kisses. - 3/15/17
I slid my diary under my pillow and set an alarm for the morning. As I was about to shut the lights off I received a vibration from my phone, meaning I got a text and I don't know who from.
"Hey love, it was nice meeting you today. I'm just going to say this right here and right now or I'll forget, because I've come up with the best nickname ever. How would you feel if I called you... Nessa?! I like it. Laterz baby." I smile and turn all the lights off, allowing myself to clear all thoughts and fall into a deep slumber.
