—HOMEROOM
was officially my favorite class of the day. too bad it was only 15 minutes. i took my seat in the back of the room, but instead of starting my day off with talking to apollo, i was talking to ryland. "hey nora, i just want to let you know that maya isn't gonna be in school today. she was puking hard this morning, so i told her to chill at my place." he said. aw, he cares.
"thanks ry, she probably has a hangover. dumbass." i said with a laugh.
"ha, yeah. what i said about yelich last night was true. i know i was drunk as hell, but he can't keep his eyes off you. you're all he talks about actually, and it's quite annoying." he said.
"i don't care ryland. honestly, the guy is a dick. sorry not sorry." i said shrugging. what do these people not comprehend? i. do. not. like. christian.
"alright, well your little constellation is here." he said as he looked at apollo.
"he's a greek god, not a constellation bud." i said.
"same difference." ryland said as he walked back to his seat.
"hey nor, i got you a vanilla bean frappe and a blueberry muffin from starbucks." he said, handing me over the food.
"aw thanks apollo! how'd you know i like-" i said but he cut me off.
"i have history with maya. and trust me, she loves talking about things that have nothing to do with history." he said with a chuckle.
"well, thanks. i was running a little late today so i wasn't able to eat, but this makes up for it. how much do i owe you?" i asked pulling out my wallet from my bag.
"no no, it's on me." he said.
"are you sure? i don't mind." i told him.
"it's on me." he smiled. miss roman came in earlier than usual, and started speaking.
"students! settle down, settle down. now mr. maverick has came up with an idea for all the homerooms in the school! it is a partner project, and no, don't ask if you can pick your own. i have already picked the partners," everyone groaned. i really wanted to work with apollo, but i doubt that will happen now.
"the project will be about your futures. you are high school seniors, what do you want to do for the rest of your life? do you want to attend college? do you want to be a movie star? when your days at westlake are over, and those days will be coming faster than you think, what do you want to reflect on?" she asked us all. me and apollo looked at each other. he mouthed the words 'this is stupid' and i nodded my head in return. "now, on to your partners!" she exclaimed. again, everyone groaned. we were high school seniors, we should be able to pick our own partners.
"mr. washington, with miss jackson.
mr. norton with miss cooper.
mr. andrews with miss hemmingway
and mr. yelich with miss briar." the teacher said. everyone just looked at each other. i was with christian fucking yelich?! of course i was. why wouldn't i be? it's official, god hates me! apollo looked at me and mouthed 'i can't believe i got quinn' i just put my head down in response. great, now quinn is going to try and steal one of my only friends here, and i was stuck with this dumb fuck baseball player.
"now go on, talk to your partners!" she said. everyone got up and went to go meet with their partners. i saw quinn approach apollo with the biggest, and fakest smile on her face. it hurt to see them together.
"hi!" christian said, breaking me out of my thoughts.
"uh, hi." the boy knew i didn't like him, so why does he keep trying?
"so, where do you want to work on the project tonight? your place or-" the boy asked, but i quickly cut him off.
"mine." i replied. i was NOT going to be at christian's house, alone. no way in hell.
"alright. i'll come over after school!" he said excitedly.
"yeah, can't wait." i said nonchalantly.
"nora can i ask you something?" he asked.
"what." i rolled my eyes.
"why do you hate me so much? what do you have against me?" he asked. i already told him the answer to this at the party.
"i already told you. you're a rich, stuck up, arrogant asshole who isn't worth my time. you put other people down so you can feel better about yourself, and it's fucked up. real fucked up." i said sternly. christian stayed quiet for awhile, and i started to feel bad. it wasn't entirely him, but it was the group of people he surrounded himself with. he had such great talent, and it was disappointing that he hung out with the people he did. the bell finally rang, and we were out of homeroom. i raced out of the class, and christian followed me.
"nora! wait!" i heard him call behind me.
"what could you possibly want christian?" i asked him.
"i'm sorry. i'm sorry for being an asshole to you, and i really want to get to know you." he said. by now, everyone in the hallway was staring at us, including quinn cooper. and she did not look pleased. i saw quinn walking towards us, so i just walked away. that spoiled brat was not about to make me look like a bitch in front of everyone. around school, i wasn't the topic of any conversations, and i liked it that way. i hated being the center of attention.
the rest of the day went by pretty fast. before i knew it, it was 2:15 and we were going home. christian saw me in the parking lot, and stopped me before i rushed into my car.
"woah, nice jeep!" he exclaimed.
"thanks. what's up?" i asked him.
"i just wanted to ask what time do you want me over?" he said as he admired my car.
"how's 3:00?" i asked.
"3 is perfect! see you then!" he said as he tried to hug me, but i quickly turned away.
"yeah, bye." i said as i hopped in my car. i live about 20 minutes from school. i left around 2:20, so by now it was 2:40. i saw my mom's car in the driveway, but not my dad's. of course.
"hey mom!" i said as i entered the house.
"hi sweetheart? how was school today?" she asked.
"it was good i guess. my friend-thing-person is coming over at 3 ok? we have to work on a project together." i said as i rolled my eyes.
"friend-thing-person?" she said as she raised her eyebrow.
"his name is christian. he plays baseball." i said.
"is he cute?" she asked. only my mom would ask that.
"no." i lied. christian was a very, very good looking boy. but his personality was a complete turn off.
"don't lie." she said. she always knew when i lied.
"yes, very cute. but he's a douche so-" i said as she cut me off.
"nora, my only daughter, let me explain something to you. all guys your age are douche bags. they grow out of it, trust me. maybe give him a chance? i'll put out some chips and drinks for you both while you're working." she said.
"thanks momma." i smiled.
"no problem honey! you got a letter from corey today by the way, it's in your room." she said as she went upstairs. did i not tell you about corey yet? corey's my brother, he's in the Navy. he's 24, and he left when he graduated. i was 10 when he left, and let me tell you, that was the most heartbreaking moment of my life. i didn't fully understand what was going on or why he was leaving, but my parents just told me he was leaving for quite some time. as i got older i started to understand why he left and what he was doing for the country, and it taught me how precious time with your family is. corey is doing incredible things, and i'm so proud to call him my brother. it was now 3:05, and i heard the doorbell ring.
"i got it!" i yelled. at the door, i saw a smiling christian yelich.
"hey nora! your house is huge!" he said with a dorky smile.
"thanks, i guess. come in." i said as i let him in the house.
"what do your parents do? you never really talk about your family." he said.
"well, my mom is a nurse, and my dad is a lawyer in the city. my brother corey is in the navy." i said.
"oh cool! my younger brother cameron wants to go to the marines after highschool." he said.
"what about you? you never really talk about your family either." i asked.
"well, it's kinda complicated. my dad and my mom were married, but they got divorced and he moved to texas. me and my brothers don't have the same dad, but my mom wanted to keep the last name yelich for all of us." he looked down at his shoes. i could tell it was a hard subject for him.
"oh." was all i could seem to say at the moment.
"yeah. so anyways, wanna start?" he asked changing the subject.
"sure. we should go outside, since it's so nice, unless you want to stay inside." i asked.
"outside is fine, it's gorgeous today." he said. i led him to the pool/spa area.
"so, i'm guessing you want to be a baseball player?" i said as i started the conversation.
"hell yeah! i have offers from a lot of colleges, but the miami marlins are giving me an opportunity to be drafted after highschool. i still haven't figured out what i want to do yet. what about you?" he asked.
"well, ever since i was a little kid i wanted to direct movies. i know it's kinda stupid, but that's always what i wanted to do." i said with a chuckle.
"no that's cool. i hope you make it one day." he said with a smile.
"and i hope you become a miami marlin one day." i said with a small giggle.
the rest of the night went well. christian stayed till about five o'clock, and we were actually almost done with the project. he was going to come back tomorrow to finish some things. maybe getting closer with christian wouldn't be so bad......
who am i kidding.
