was the first wednesday of the school year. this meant that all the jocks of the school would get together and play a flag football game. it's normally the baseball team vs the football team, because the hockey, soccer, lacrosse, basketball and swim teams are smart and don't want to risk injuries. the event was from 7-9th period. christian was looking forward to it, even though he sucks at everything besides baseball. i'm not kidding! he's too lanky. he normally plays quarterback in the game.
today was also the day that all the jocks girlfriends would wear their boyfriends jersey. i walked in to homeroom and saw maya wearing jason's, nylah wearing jaxson's, and christian was holding his.
"bestfriend!" maya exclaimed.
"hey girl." i smiled.
"you and yelich huh? i ship it." she laughed.
"we haven't even gone on a date yet, so chill." i giggled as i walked to my seat.
"well, do you like him?" she asked. i've been asking myself the same thing.
"honestly m, i don't know. i think i do, but i don't want too." my smile faded, but quickly came back as i saw christian come back to my seat.
"here, it's my baseball jersey. will you wear it later? please?" he said as he handed me the jersey that said "Yelich" with the number 7.
"isn't the whole jersey thing for the players girlfriends?" i asked.
"y-yeah. but i want you to wear it, you mean a lot to me." he blushed as he squeezed his hand. i realized over time that he does that when he's nervous.
"i'll wear it." i said as i took the jersey from him.
"you're gonna watch the game right?" he smiled.
"yeah of course! i got to support my boy!" i smiled and playfully punched him on the shoulder. he gave me that goofy smile and walked back to his seat.
"did you just say 'my boy' to christian?! you totally like him!" maya practically yelled.
"maya shut up!" i laughed.
"you totally do! you're red as a tomato!" she said.
"fine. maybe i do." i said as i looked down at my shoes. did i really like him? the first bell rang and maya left to go to her homeroom.
i was reading, then i saw a face pop up by me.
"hey nora bear." christian said plopping down next to me.
"hi, chrissy." i smirked.
"ugh, why." he laughed.
"are you excited for the game?" i asked him.
"yeah, kinda sorta. i suck at football." he said.
"no you don't!" i lied.
"nora, if this is ever going to be more than a friendship, you have to learn to be honest with me." he laughed, and i couldn't help but laugh too.
"i'm sorry. you can throw a football far!" i exclaimed.
"thanks nor." he smiled. i put on his jersey and his eyes lit up.
"you look better than i do!" he said.
"thanks yelich." i said as i buttoned it up. it was like a dress on me, so i tucked it in.
"no problem, briar." he said mocking me. the second bell rang and we all went our separate ways.
i'd be missing social studies today because of the game, and english didn't seem like such a drag. neither did science. but math, oh god math felt like forever.
my math class was pretty boring. i was in advanced classes, so i'm with all the smart kids. we barely do anything in math really. we all finish our work and just chill. but today, i was stuck watching a debate between jack johnson and louis davidson over how many prime numbers there were. the bell finally rang after what seemed to be 8 hours, and i was off to watch my idiotic friend thing person play football.
everyone was flooding the hallways to get out to the football field. the bleachers were already filled up, but maya saved me a spot in the front.
"nor! over here i saved you a seat!" she yelled over the loud crowd.
"hey m. damn there's a lot of people here! i thought this was an optional thing to go to!" i said looking around.
"yeah." she laughed. the game started, and we got the ball first. christian led the huddle, since he was the quarterback. he said hike and passed the ball to jaxson who scored the first touchdown of the game.
after that, quinn and her group of friends said they wanted to 'talk' to me. maya and i walked into the school, and met the group of bitchy looking girls.
"you and christian aren't going to last, i hate to tell you. he's going to want someone better than you. and trust me, i know my yelich." she smirked. doesn't this bitch know how to let go? she didn't even like him.
"you never liked him, so why are you so mad?" i asked her.
"he did like me, bitch. he liked me more than he'll ever like you!" she said as she stepped towards me.
next thing i knew she slapped me in the face and things got worse. she fell on top of me and i punched her square in the face. maya started fighting nylah and gabby, who is the snitch of the school, ran away.
a few minutes later principal maverick and 4 security guards came and separated us all.
"what is going on here! briar, callisto my office now!" he said as the security guards pushed us down the hall.
"now what was that?!" he yelled as he closed the door.
"she hit me first! i didn't do anything she's just mad that her boyfriend broke up with her!" i yelled.
"settle down nor." maya said.
"i don't even want to know. you both have detention. this saturday, from 9-4. i'm letting you off easy ms. briar. your one of westlakes best students." he said. saturday? this fucking saturday?!
"wait mr. maverick i can't! please change the date!" i pleaded.
"i'll see you saturday." he said as he walked out.
"fuck my life man!" i exclaimed.
"why is saturday such a big deal?" maya asked.
"because i have my date with christian maya!" i said. i didn't know what to do. fuck.
"maybe you guys can re schedule it. i think he'll understand nora. it's only detention." she said as she opened the door to leave.
"yeah, only detention." i said as i walked out with her.•••
