"A time machine," Miss Leona said confidently.

"WHAT?!" completely caught off guard, I spat the 7 Up I was drinking all over the ground. I coughed, wiping my mouth with my sleeve.

"Miss Jenkins please!" Miss Leona snapped, looking absolutely horrid, with her wide blue eyes staring disdainfully at me.

I swallowed, feeling my irritated throat after I almost choked on my drink. "I'm sorry Miss Leona, but a time machine? I thought that stuff was just sci-fi!"

She narrowed her eyes at me. "No it is NOT sci-fi. The E.C. Agency has been working on new weapons technology that will change the future! And we need just one more part for the invention so it can be complete! The part just happened to have been destroyed 60 years ago, but if you travel back in time, you can retrieve it and bring it back before it gets destroyed."

"But why me? I am only 18! Has the Agency even tested this time machine before?!," I protested uncertainly. No way in hell am I going back in time. That's like Doctor Who stuff!!

Miss Leona circled around me, studying me with her eyes. She put a hand on my shoulder and whispered in my ear," Think of it as... a test of some sort. You could be the most famous Agent if you brought this artifact back hmm? The Agency has already discussed this with the President and he agrees that this will be beneficial to our future."

Suddenly her hand seemed ice cold as she gripped my shoulder. "Of course Miss Leona, but I want to do this to help the Agency. Not just for my personal reasons. Are you sure there isn't anyone else....?" I asked trying to hide the little nervous lilt to my voice as I looked at her in the eyes. I knew the question was pointless because there was no one else. I was their best field agent and I felt my stomach drop at that realization.

Miss Leona rolled her eyes and gave me an half smile, "Hmm of course you would."

I followed her into the Meeting Room for agents. When we passed by my room, I quickly extended my arm when Miss Leona wasn't looking and Marshie quickly scampered up my arm.

I let Marshie hide in my pockets and I stroked his furry little head for comfort.

Once I knew the plan for this mission, maybe I'd see what the fuss was all about. I wasn't very thrilled at the thought of being the first time traveler.

"This way Miss Jenkins," Miss Leona ordered as we stopped in front of a heavy metal door. She quickly typed in a code and and with a 'BEEP', the door slid open.

I stepped through the doorway and what I saw made me stop abruptly in the doorway.

No!

It couldn't be....
