::you guys are really gonna hate me after this. You've been warned::
Pidge isn't one to run. They've never enjoyed the fast movement, the area around them blurring, the cramp in their side caused by God knows what, the heavy feeling on their chest caused by asthma. They hated running.
But here they were, going as fast as their short legs could carry them.
Matt normally offered to drive Pidge over to Lance's or Hunk's, but he wasn't home right now, and Pidge needed to talk to Lance, so they continued running, not caring about the way their lungs burned or how their legs ached.
The two only lived a few streets away, a good ten minute walk between their houses, not extremely far, but it seemed like a year had passed when they turned into the McClain family driveway. Pidge gasped for breath as they walked up to the front door and knocked. A few moments later, they were met with one of Lance's twin sisters.
"Ciara... I need.. to talk.. to your brother" Pidge spoke in spurts, panting. Ciara gave Pidge a confused look before responding.
"He isn't here. I thought he was with you or Hunk. Hold on-" she said before turning her body back into the house "MAMÍ, COME 'ERE"
Soon, Mrs. McClain stood at the door, Ciara leaving back into their house.
"Pidge, Lance isn't here, he came home after school and said he was going out, I knew you and him weren't on the best of terms, so I thought he went to Hunk's house." The look of confusion grew on the woman's face, so Pidge quickly tried to dismiss any worry she might have.
"Oh, um I didn't check, I just assumed he would be here. I needed to talk things out with him, I guess I'll call Hunk, that probably is where he's at, I'm sorry to bother you" they laughed awkwardly.
"It's no bother mi cariño, you're welcome here whenever, you know that. But when you find Lance, would you tell him to hurry home? He's late for dinner" she asked, bringing Pidge into a hug.
"Will do" Pidge answered, stepping away from the door. Once Mrs. McClain closed it, Pidge pulled out their phone and called Hunk. They knew Hunk was busy and really didn't need company, but they needed to make sure.
One ring
Two rings
Three rings
Come on big guy, pick up the phone.
"Hey Pidge what's up?" Hunk answered, and Pidge sighed in relief.
"Hey Hunk, Lance wouldn't happen to be there with you, would he?"
"Umm, no. I haven't seen him since we got out today. Actually I haven't seen him since science after, you know. But why are you asking?"
The internal debate of whether or not to tell Hunk the truth wasn't long. Pidge wasn't going to worry him.
"Oh, uh no reason, just wondering."
"Pidge, you suck at lying what's going on?" Hunk demanded, and Pidge sighed, knowing they lost the battle.
"I just went to his house to apologise, but his mom said he went to yours. I'm worried about him"
A lump began forming in Pidge's chest, if Lance ran off because of something they did and something happened to him, they would never be able to forgive themselves.
"Hunk I'm worried"
"Pidge calm down, I'm sure he's just clearing his head somewhere. Do you want me to come help you look for him?" He asked, but Pidge knew Hunk was studying for an exam in his engineering class.
"No, you need to study, I'll uh, I'll call Shiro, he's not busy I don't think. Just, if Lance does end up at your place-"
"You'll be the first to know. Okay, good luck finding him. Also, Pidge?"
"Yeah?"
"This isn't your fault"
They hung up their phone, not being able to say okay. Pidge knew Lance needed a friend, not another enemy, but they pushed him away. This was their fault. Nobody else's.
They then dialled another number which answered immediately.
"Hellllllo?" He answered.
"Shiro, I need your help" Pidge said, close to tears. God they messed up. Why were they so stubborn?
"Pidge? What's wrong? Did you talk to Lance?" Shiro asked, and thats when everything broke.
