She could hear him screaming in the next room over. She wanted to help him so badly. Emotionally, it broke her. At least that meant that the inside matched the outside.
It was her fault, she was the one who interrogated him, the one who tried to force him into agreeing. She was the one at fault, yet he felt that he was the one who made a mistake.
It was always difficult being with Mason, but it had it high points. He understood her when nobody else did, he taught her how to laugh again when she forgot, he showed her that the big parts of your life aren't your defining features, unless you allow them to be.
Maria loved him, but that was her secret, and hers alone.
