Kol is an Original Vampire, a Mikaelson.

I opened the door, and then walked through the corridor, when I met Caroline halfway of it, still staring deeply at the same Klaus' painting we saw yesterday.
She's wearing the blue gown she'd chosen yesterday from Rebekah's room, her hair was up in a messy bun, almost the same bun she had back at the Mikaelson Ball.
As she didn't seem to notice me, even though I was standing right behind her, I cleared my throat waiting for her to see me.
"Sorry to interrupt you and your lover." I laughed at myself, thinking how come could I be so funny.
"Hmm? What... um- I wasn't um-" Caroline was trying to defend herself as I startled her, but she just looked back at the painting.
"It's okay! I like the painting better than I like Klaus so..." I smiled as I said so, trying not to make it obvious she had a HUGE crush on Klaus, well on OUR Klaus, back then, in 2012.
I was wondering what Bonnie, Damon, Stefan and everyone were doing in this moment. They were probably trying to find a way to send us back, or to just figure out what happened to us.
I didn't want to think about my cousin's sad face, so I tried to occupy my mind by thinking about Caroline and her crush.
The pain in the ass of an original hybrid, the jerk, the dick, the asshole, the son of a... but I was cut short off of my thinking by Caroline who cleared her throat.
"You okay? You seemed in deep thoughts.''
"I was" I replied, still not looking away from the painting.
She furrowed her eyebrows. "About what?" She asked, turning her glance away from the painting, to me.
I kept looking at the painting as I shrugged. "Oh, you know... global warming, that kind of stuff..."
She laughed a bit, but then her laughter turned into a sad chuckle.
She stared into my eyes, looking in deep thoughts, before she spoke. "Do you think we are ever going to get back?"
She didn't mention the place, but I knew where she was referring to.
I looked at nowhere behind her as I shook my head multiple times. "I... I don't know." I answered truthfully, looking at her at the end of my sentence. It had not been a day since we'd arrived but even I had never heard of a spell that could bring you back in time so... the chances we had of going back were pretty slim I guess.
She nodded slightly, I looked at her as she turned her glance back to the painting. As an awkward silence fell upon us, I started to think about the future.
I started to think about home, about our friends, about our families .... about Elena, Bonnie, Stefan, Matt, Jer and Damon. Yes even Damon! I must have gone nuts because of being here!
