It was that time of the year for the national games to be held and it involved various districts competing against each other for a prize. When the list of teams came out and I checked for my team members, Angie and John were not on my team. I ended up with Rebecca, Wesley, and Hailey who were from district 10.

As usual, we had breakfast early and everyone was down before 10 am and the games were supposed to start at 12 pm sharp. In order for us to play, we were each given a card and were meant to tie the card around our neck with a rope. The first game was not as intense as I thought it would be, the team with the least members won the first game and my team was up next. We were about to compete in a 4 X 100m relay race and were positioned on the track 20 meters away from each other. The other teams we were competing against were positioned in their respective distance as well. I looked around to see if Angie or John were anywhere to be found but I couldn't see them.

The whistle blew and the race started, my heart began to race. I had a fear of failing in a race especially since I was the anchor leg. Screams of people cheering for the teams were so loud my mind couldn't focus.

"Okay. Okay. Breath." I kept saying to myself. I took a quick look behind and saw Wesley running, they were on the second runner. I kept my hands out as instructed and got into position.

"Go! Go!" The voice of Rebecca came behind me as I felt the baton on my palms. I took off. This was my time to shine. This was the moment I couldn't even bother to look at who is ahead of me or not. I ran faster. My mom would be proud. I increased my pace, the finish line was some meters away. "You can do this." I kept saying to myself. For a quick second, I looked back. I was winning. I ran faster. As I was about to embrace the finish line, I blacked out. That was the end.
