*2 MONTHS EARLIER BEFORE I WAS KIDNAPPED*We found a house we were about to move into and the house was not so bad, although I will miss our current house, I never imagined the day we will move out of this house. The tree house? The backyard? Lord, I will miss this house. I talked to Jacob, my boyfriend, and Chloe my close friend about the move and they seemed to be fine with it. Today was the day of our garage sale and everything was already in place, the garage sale began around 10 am but a lot of people eventually started showing up around 12 pm. I decided to help with the advertising of our sale, Jacob helped with the arrangement and Chloe helped with welcoming people. Everybody else found their place somewhere.
"Lizzie, do you mind looking after the box I left in the back? It's a grey box." Mom said to me after a while, holding a brown box.
"Sure, Mom." I said as I left the poster I was holding. "I just need someone to take after this."
"Katie will do that."
The backyard had various boxes and I sighted the one that Mom was possibly talking about. It was a grey box. I spotted Abel and he had a couple that toys in his hands he wanted to sell off in the garage sale, I waved to him and he waved back. I reached the box. Am I just gonna stay here? I thought. I texted Jacob to meet me at the back but he said he was busy with something and Chloe was helping my mom sell off a TV stand. I looked around the box. What could possibly be in there? I didn't bother to go as far as opening the box because the last time I opened one of moms things, I didn't exactly like what I saw. 20 minutes passed and no one came to the backyard, I heard noises from the front. I guess what's inside the box must be really important for Mom to tell me to wait this long. Before I knew it, Dad came rushing in.
"Darling, I need your help! Can you take these plates to the front?" He said holding a pile of plates.
"Mom said I should look over this box. Can you send Katie?" I insisted.
"Your Mom will understand." He said holding out the plates to me.
"If you say so." I took the plates from him and went over to the front. A lot of people were still there and it was around 3 pm by now. I dropped the plates on a table and looked over and saw Jacob.
"Hey! I hope you are having a good time." I said to Jacob.
"I am! Who doesn't love a good garage sale?"
"I am starving. Wanna go grab something to eat inside?"
"Let's go" He said grabbing my hands. We got into the house and went over to the kitchen. We saw some pizzas in the fridge and decided to warm it. When the pizza was done, we sat on the couch in the parlor and talked for a while.
"Pizza could possibly be one of my best foods in the world." he said putting a piece in his mouth.
"Same." I laughed as I ate a piece. The conversation went on and we talked about a couple of things and also how his family was doing, 35 minutes went by so fast we didn't even realize.
"We have to get back." I said looking at the time on my phone. We headed back and Jacob went to sell something. I went back to the backyard only to find that he box was missing.
HOLY MOLY! WHERE IS THE BOX?
I looked around the other boxes but I couldn't find it. WHERE IS IT? MOM IS GONNA KILL ME. I searched around for another 5 minutes. Nothing. How does one just take a random box from here? I had a feeling someone took it to the front so I went to the front and casually looked for it again. I spotted Katie, she will probably know something about this.
"Katie! Do you happen to see any grey box. It's kinda small." I called out to her.
"Erm... No? Why?" She said looking confused.
"Oh Lord." I said walking away. I could sense that Katie was utterly confused by my sudden exit. My first thought was to google what could possibly be in a box left in your backyard but then I realized how stupid it sounded. Abel wouldn't even think of doing that and he is 5. Abel! Yes! He would know something about this. I decided to go look for Abel and found him throwing away something in the trash.
"Abel!" I called out.
"Liz." He said looking towards me.I knelt down beside him.
"The grey box in the backyard is it important?"
"I think it is to Mom. I overheard her telling Dad that it was important to her."
"Okay. Thank you." I said kissing his cheeks. My heart was beating fast. What could possibly be important to Mom that she would keep in a box in the backyard?
It was around 5 pm and I still couldn't find the box. The garage sale was ending , most people already left and we started clearing the remaining things. From the looks of things, we sold much more than we hoped to, I saw Mom heading my way and I knew I was in for it.
"I messed up, Mom." I said before she uttered a word. She came closer and looked at me.
"What do you mean?" She asked looking concerned.
"I messed up."
