Mikey.
I heard the welcoming chime the door made as I entered the small shop, I walked over to the counter telling off my usual order without even looking up, leaving behind the proper payment, I swiftly turned to walk up a dusty staircase that trembled under every step I took. I took my seat in a black leather couch that had clearly seen better days, I retrieved a small notebook from my bag and quickly became absorbed in it, barely noticing the cup as it was placed in front of me by familiar hands. I grunted a quick thanks, and focused back on my work while now sipping on my coffee.
My eyes began to swim with images of of musical notes and clefs, as I took my solace in the quiet atmosphere the quaint cafe. I could see people moving as they came and go from the corner of my eyes, but I was entranced by the musical language I was creating as I wrote. I felt a presence in front of me, and after a few moments I lifted my eyes.
"Could I get you something?" the boy behind the eyes questioned. My words stumbled out as I felt myself become entranced by this strange boy's eyes. "Um, sure. Can I get a macchiato, d-" I was quickly cut off with, "Double shot of espresso, no whip, caramel drizzle." I felt a shiver go down my spine "Sorry, um, I always make your drink when you come in." he quickly remarked as a shade of pink rose across his features. I was so lost in him that all I could manage to let out was a small "Uh, yeah, that's it. Thanks." I quickly reabsorbed myself into what I was working on.
Good going asshole, you made things weird. It's a small shop of course he probably knows your order, you're a regular. I mentally cursed at myself for reading too far into the small interaction. I allowed myself to drift back into my book. I noticed my refill being set down by hands I couldn't recognize. I looked up feeling my heart sink as I saw a different boy before me.
You really did scare him off Mikey wow good job!!! The other barista looked at him with an ungenuine smile and I nodded a quick thank you to him, feeling my mood darken. It was getting darker and I noticed people that were occupying the seats around me vacating the small shop. I heard someone clear their throat as I penciled in another addition to my writings. The boy with the welcoming eyes stood before me.
"We-uh, we're closed." I began to feel aware of the time that had passed, I looked at my watch which read 1 a.m., two hours after closing time. "I let you stay a bit longer, because you looked like you were wrapped up in something really important and I didn't want to interrupt you." I was in shock, I had wasted two hours of this random kid's time without even realizing it.
"What's your name?"
"Pete, Pete Wentz."
"Well Pete Wentz, I'm Mikey, Mikey Way." Pete looked down, pink flashing his face again.
"I know"
"What?"
"I fill out your orders under your name, so yes Mikey I know your name."
Something inside of my stomach blossomed, making me feel weirdly connected to Pete. "I'm-uh sorry for making you stay so late, but thanks, I'll-uh see you around- I guess." I lowered my head, and bolted from the room holding my things, rushing out of the shop feeling off in a way.
