Dangerous Liaisons

"I will love you as long as the sun burns in the sky, as long as the moon shines its light into the dark night, until the raging blue oceans become calm and run dry. I will love you until the end of time."

"Is that what passes for uniforms now?" America paused, glancing down at her cheer outfit and then at Rosie in amusement as the little blonde ran right into the back of her legs. She arched an eyebrow at her as the little blonde giggled an apology. The young woman peered back up at Kol who watching her expectantly, Rebekah and Finn nowhere to be seen, with Elijah in the armchair adjacent and Klaus in the loveseat across from him. "It is if you're a cheerleader. Most public schools don't have uniforms, and I think all the ones in the States don't."

Kol furrowed his brows in confusion, America returning his gaze because she was unsure what exactly the problem was until Elijah spoke up, not quite looking up from his book. "Around the time Kol was alive, cheerleaders were primarily men who were in rebellion. Women weren't entirely permitted to participate in cheerleading until during and after World War II when many services needed their help and soon became women dominated—it was a tragedy, really, that it took so long—however, even then, women wore long sleeves and long, pleated skirts.

"They continued to until the 80s, I believe." America and Kol exchanged a glance, the pair looking over at Elijah a moment later. The former wore a disgusted grimace. "Ugh, long skirts and sleeves?" As Rosie leaned into her, peering around her legs, Kol made a noise of agreement to her distaste. "I must say I much prefer the outfits now." He winked at her, the woman half-heartedly rolling her eyes as Klaus hummed in accordance. "Mr. Elijah?" America blinked, peering down at Rosie in surprise before a frown graced her lips.

The house had been full for merely a day and the young girl was used to having their pack around, always around someone—even Klaus, if he was just in his study. She was exceptional at enjoying the quiet, a trait the man appreciated immensely. Rosie was content to sit in one of the chairs and read one of her storybooks with Ivie tucked into her side but soon, the hybrids were gone and more often than not, Klaus had been out of the house or the door to his study was closed.

Naturally, that left the man's siblings and mother, the latter of which Rosie mostly avoided because she could sense the dark magic around and the vampires America made a point of never leaving her alone with. It wasn't because she didn't trust them—in the case of Elijah and Rebekah, at least, but they had all let it be known that they would rather be anywhere than here and she could respect that and keep their lives separate. Also, because they would more than likely leave, she didn't want Rosie to get attached and miss them.
