Breckenridge, Colorado

"How did you find me?" America smiled, somewhat sheepish as deposited Meri into the bewildered vampire's arms, rolling the suitcase at her feet partially into the house. "Locator spell. Stole a lock of hair in case of emergencies." Katherine's eyes narrowed into a half-hearted glare. "You—this is an emergency?" The woman shrugged as her sister from another lifetime set Meri down, huffing as the puppy made a beeline further into the house. "Yup. I'd leave her with Stefan but he flipped his switch and I feel like he'd hurt her just to spite me.
"And then Klaus and I won't be staying in one place as much and she hates car rides unless you're holding her but Klaus refuses to have her near his car unless she's in her crate. So, I thought why pay for a kennel when I can just nicely ask my beloved sister to watch her?" Katherine scowled even as she slid the suitcase further inside. "So leading Klaus straight to my safe house is asking nicely?" America glanced over her shoulder at the sleek, black Jaguar SUV laying in wait. "Ugh, ignore him.
"We came to an agreement. He leaves you alone for now. He's got his hybrids to worry about anyhow so you're in the clear." The brunette looked less than convinced, staring apprehensively at the vehicle. "Just like that?" Far from it, really, America was mostly lying through her teeth. Klaus did have bigger problems and concerns than hunting Katherine but the woman had ensured her safety for a time. If Klaus tried, whether it be him or another, they'd be going around in useless circles in the neighbourhood.
"I can be pretty convincing." Was all she offered in response and all the hesitant brunette seemed to need as she relented with a sigh. "Fine. I'll keep your damn dog."

From Katherine's, they were on the road for much of the next day or so, passing through Alabama and Kentucky, Tennessee and Kansas as they made a beeline for Evergreen Lake, Colorado. The man had gotten wind of a pack hidden away in the mountains from a local witch, a rather large one at that. It was a long drive from their starting point in Mystic Falls but they reached just as the sun rose on the next day. Their destination was a large house tucked away in the snowy mountains, cars occupying the long, spacious driveway.
America leaned forward on the dash, content to stay inside the car in the comfortable warmth provided compared to the newfound cold outside. It was still early August but the heat of Virginia dissipated the further north they travelled. Klaus left the vehicle running but after an hour of disappearing inside, he was making his way out to turn it off, all but demanding for her to follow him inside. The woman didn't hide her displeasure as she wrapped herself in her blanket, grumbling as she stepped out onto the frozen ground.
