'Thanks for Visiting Mystic Falls, Virginia.' The words haunted her, unlike every other time she had passed it. None hurt like this as she sat in the plush, leather seats of the SUV, curled in Stefan's side with her head on his shoulder, his resting atop hers. He had wanted an exchange. Her life—her freedom and power—was his just as she owned his, in a sense, and America, despite wanting to hate his power-hungry trait with every fibre of her being, only asked if she could have the night to pack.

He had acquiesced, casting her a lingering look of suspicion as if he expected her to double-cross him. America would have been offended if she had the energy to feel much of anything other than numb, only aware that Stefan had followed her home to her empty house. Elena was still at the boarding house, keeping an eye on Damon completely unaware of what they had done and Jeremy had been at Bonnie's since the night of the ritual, coming home just today after the funeral to tuck his suit away to the back of his closet where he desperately hoped it would stay.

The younger brother had watched blankly as she haphazardly packed, throwing just about anything in her duffel or suitcase. "I didn't want them to lose both of us." She had paused then, breathing deeply to stave off her tears as she fondly held the little vampire bat Damon had gotten her ages ago. "They'll have each other and that's all we can ask for. They'll be okay." She had to hope, after all. It was all the two of them had left. Hope seemed further and further out of her reach as the distance between her and her home grew longer by the second.

"Is he awake?" Stefan whispered, barely coherent but honestly loud in the silence of the car. America held her phone up so he could see the message Elena had just sent her. Hey hes ok. Katherine says u had to make a deal with Klaus. What did he want? Damon's came in a few seconds after. What did it cost? Stefan sighed softly, the woman purposely ignoring the tremble in his exhale. "It'll hurt more to keep contact with them." She snorted derisively, choosing to respond to Damon knowing he would tell Elena what she said anyways.

Stefan will be back in ten years. "Mm, like he won't hunt us down to give us shit for caring."

America tossed and turned in the hotel bed, unable to sleep. She sat up with a huff, sitting up with a bitter, sleep-deprived scowl. "No, please continue, your sounds of frustration were enlightening." Klaus quipped from where he sat at the table in the room, lamp lighting the papers and map spread out before him. The woman's scowl deepened as she fell back onto the bed with a huff though she didn't reward him with a verbal response. Not that it mattered. "Keep that expression and I'm afraid your face will get stuck that way."
