Hello class," greeted Ms Bustier, to many murmurs of hello in return. "As of today, the whole class will be learning about superheroes - specifically speaking, Ladybug and Chat Noir. People will pair up and spend a total of three weeks finding out as much as they can about the heroes."

"Ms Bustier!" Alya called. "May we use the Ladyblog to help us?"

"Yes, you may," replied Ms Bustier. "But please, Alya Césaire, please refrain from shouting out in class."

Alya blushed, embarrassed. "Sorry, miss," came her flustered reply before she sat down.

"Good. Now, you may choose your partners."

"ADRIKINS!" Chloe shrieked loudly. "OH, PICK ME ADRIKINS!"

Adrien mentally sighed. Oh, boy, he thought to himself. He had three choices. There was Chloe Bourgeois, the loud, and sometimes mean, but otherwise nice(ish) friend. Then there was Nino Lahiffe, a cheerful character and a good friend. Then there was Marinette Dupain Cheng, a cute, shy girl who was hard-working and protective of her friends. She was excellent at projects in the past, Adrien had observed. So he chose her.

"I'm sorry, Chloe, but I'm pairing up with Marinette for this project." He smiled over at Marinette, who seemed very shocked indeed and, for the sake of getting Adrien as a partner, tried desperately not to act like this was news to her.

"Y-yes. I-I am t-teaming up w-with Adrien," Marinette stuttered nervously, and giggled, scratching the back of her blue hair nervously, smiling goofily.

Half an hour later, after Chloe complaining, saying "my father, the mayor of Paris, will hear about this!" and reluctantly teaming up with an over-excited Sabrina, who immediately started to plan ahead for the project, while Chloe nodded, though clearly not listening. She was obviously bored to her wits, and upset that no one and listened to her (for once!). She never got to pair up with Adrien, either. Overall it had been a trashy day for Chloe.

As everyone filed out of class, Adrien stayed behind, waiting for Marinette as she slowly placed her work books in her bag. Eventually she got up to walk home.

"Wait." Adrien said. "Do you want me to come round to yours tomorrow? My father's a little strict. You might not get on with him." Adrien explained vaguely. Secretly he wanted to spend some time away from the house. His father always isolated him, and ignored him, and his mother had been missing for quite some time, so poor Adrien had been neglected of love.

"Sure." Marinette said cheerfully, smiling brightly. "Do you want to meet up after school tomorrow?"

Adrien nodded. "I don't have any shoots going on, so..." He grinned cattishly.

"OK." She smiled. "Tomorrow it is. B-bye, Adrien," she said, and walked off out of sight.

Adrien stood there for a while, then grabbed his things and bounded out.

Something indicated to him that day that this project was going to be a lot more fun than anticipated...
